Sunday Comments May 5

On the surface, Faye really is behaving like a spoiled child but I do kind of see it from her point of view. She's only 11 and she's had a hell of a life. Now she sees her real dad and a connection to her past. He abandoned her but now he's back. I don't think Tim really wants Faye to move in but Faye is determined and said the most hurtful thing possible. "You're not my real mum". Faye listens to Tim because she's trying to make an impression. Tim seems to want to support Anna, though Anna isn't so sure Tim hasn't got an agenda. I don't think he does. Anna thinks it's his worst nightmare, too. Maybe not that much, but he doesn't seem to want her there full time.

Poor Anna is at the end of her rope and dragging Faye out was probably the last thing she wanted to do. Tim, at least, shouted at Faye so she'd go though he probably didn't want to. I do like how he does try to back up Anna and i wonder if he wants the best of both worlds, be a dad but not have the responsibility. Anna reckons she can ban Tim and Faye from seeing or speaking to each other. That's going to be difficult with him in the neighbourhood and her determined to dig her heels in.

Anna, however, is overreacting by trying to forbid Tim and Faye from seeing each other. Thing is, I don't think he wants to be a full time dad for all that he'd like to get to know his daughter. Maybe that will change but for now, he's really caught in the middle. Then Faye lies and says she's been hit. It's not the first time she's told horrible lies. Why didn't Social Services send Faye's usual worker to talk to Anna? They have to follow it up of course. They can't take the chance that it might be true. If she really wanted to cause trouble, she should have told the truth and said that Owen smacked her.

I didn't think Faye would be able to keep up the pretence. She was scared her mum might go to prison and it got a lot bigger than she thought it would. And when it looks like she wouldn't be moved to her father like she hoped, well there went that plan up in smoke. Anna is snapping and worried sick and relieved when Faye dropped the charges. Now the repair job begins. They have to find some sort of compromise for Faye's sake. Where to go from here? Give Faye a trial period to live with Tim but will Tim think it's such a good idea? Owen doesn't think it's a good idea, he thinks Anna should stand firm and not give in. I don't think so. I think she's doing the right thing in the short term. Faye wastes no time playing her father for an idiot, pretending she's allowed to have chocolate for breakfast. Anna feels like she's losing Faye but i doubt Tim will be the green grass on the other side of the fence for Faye for long.

Gary is very solicitious of Tina and Owen's noticed. Groceries. New window locks. Tina doesn't seem to want him to be too much in her face either. She's too independent. But she made a fatal mistake, she let Gary feel the baby kicking and you could see it all over his face. He's enchanted and he's going to confuse the feelings for the baby with feelings for Tina. You can see it coming a mile off.  Tommy's still acting like a spoiled brat. Izzy is starting to feel like a fifth wheel in this pregnancy. She really felt left out at the pre (ante) natal class.

Julie reckoned that if Paul stayed with her, he'd be close at hand affording a better chance of making up. She isn't taking sides, just taking pity though Eileen thinks Julie should be on her side. Brian just wants rid. You know, he really is a selfish git. I compared him to Derek Wilton in the past and he's only convincing me I was right. I guess Eileen's miserable face told Paul a thing or two so Paul is making plans to leave altogether.  Eileen has a face like a wet weekend and it's her own fault. When you tell someone to go, they go and you can't expect them to read your mind and come crawling back and promising to change. It's unrealistic and she probably does know that. She's got to give Paul back the tickets for their romantic holiday but he won't take them and suggests she take Julie who is going to make a big meal out of it and probably drive Eileen nuts.

Steve reckons golf will help Dev keep an even keel and it's starting to sound good to Dev after all. The golf conversation seemed to brighten him up for awhile until Karl and Stella came in and Gloria fawned all over them. Dev finds it ironic that the man that broke up his marraige is back with his partner and it's all happy endings for them while and Stella can't keep her nose out of Dev's business. She doesn't have to justify herself to Dev but because St. Ella has to be the focus point of everyone and everything and even though he told them off, Stella still wanted to go round and talk to him. Karl had an awkward reaction didn't he? Rant, rave and let's move away from here which was his real agenda.  The best St. Ella can do is a holiday.

Mary wants to do an Australian night, steaks on the barbie and all that. Nick was keen  on them at first, reckoned they'd bring in lots of trade. Sounds very much like they're more of a chore and less of a moneymaker. Probably the punters got tired of the novelty. She didn't take the news well and blamed Leanne. She quit. Result! But now she's at a loose end. Pefect. Just in time for a new opportunity.

Dev really isn't coping well but it's early days yet. Anger is normal but he needs to find a way to cope because the kids don't need to see his anger. He reckons he needs a nanny to help out with the kids. Probably not a bad idea. Nanny Mary on the job. She might drive the children spare, but she'd be a firm hand and she'd probably not talk down to them either. Rita is supportive. Norris of course, is not. Mary managed to scupper the other potential candidate in typical Mary way. Dev is trying hard to find someone and Sophie nailed it. He's looking for another Sunita for the kids. Mary is the complete opposite of that. Dev doesn't think she's suitable, between personality and lack of experience. Mary made herself indispensible and voila, she's Nanny Bobbins except she's not so bobbins (i.e. rubbish) at it, is she? Best foot forward maybe?

Fiz and Tyrone are still confused about who's at whose house. Fiz thinks matchmaking between Chesney and Katy is a good idea. I'm dubious but Katy does want to get back together with Chesney but timing is everything. Chesney keeps seeing she and Ryan talking on the rare occasion they actually do bump into each other so she quit her job. Maybe that will help. Chesney and Katy's storyline is boring me to tears. One little kiss and he throws it all away. Every time he seems like he might be ready to forgive, he sees Ryan and Katy talking and he's upset all over again no matter that it was wholly contrived because they hadn't even laid eyes on each other until that very minute. Ches might be an old man in a teenager's body but she's a lively young woman feeling trapped in her life. She says she wants him and will be happy but I think she'll be dissatisfied in the long run. They're both too young. Katy and Chesney are making baby steps back towards each other except yet again, a chance encounter with Ryan puts Chesney off. They have the worst timing in the world, so much so that it's really getting on my nerves. Chesney really is being unreasonably jealous. It wasn't a full blown affair after all. He's going to push Katy right into Ryan's arms at this rate, especially if he's spying on her phone, too.

Beth has an idea. And an niece. Quite a pretty one too. She seems quite mature for her age and smart. She makes soaps. She loves dogs. She doesn't drink. Chesney seems impressed but Izzy and Katy's arrival put a damper on things at the Bistro a little. It certainly made Katy miserable and Chesney really does want her back he just doesn't know how now. It seems to have had the desired effect, though. Chesney and Katy may be making inroads. I hope this isn't the last we see of Sinead.

Dev carries croissants in the shop? Really? If Julie has her way, Eileen isn't going to have as relaxing a holiday as she thinks. A compromise *should* be that Eileen do a couple of excursions with Julie. What it *is*, is Eileen passing over the whole holiday to Julie and Brian. Why did Izzy make Faye knock on the door when she came back and where was the backpack with her stuff? Peter's paying Leanne, that must be for support of Simon or is he paying her out of her share of the bookies monthly. That must be it, I guess.  Carla's sold the flat. So where's Rob living? I thought he was living in her place.
