Sunday Comments October 1

After having a hate on for Seb all these months, Anna's inner and outer maternal genes are shining brightly and she now feels bad for Seb having to live in the situation he's in, much to Kevin's frustration. Faye admits to knowing a bit about his home life but not a lot. Kevin can tell Anna's sympathy is at Olympic levels and tries to get her to admit that Seb is not her responsibility. She sort of agrees. Half heartedly. But she can't help herself and goes to Seb's house. She finds him with the twins. Anna doesn't go away so Seb sends the kids, Charlie and Lexie upstairs and lets Anna in.

Anna is horrified at the mess in the house. He protests that just because his mother drinks doesn't mean she doesn't work. He forbids her to let Social Services know because they'd take the twins away. He starts to break down, insisting he's trying his best and begs her not to tell Faye the whole truth. She agrees but points out it isn't fair for the kids to have to live like that, nor him. She wants to help and wants him to come back to her house for a proper tea. She hugs him and he clings on like he hasn't had any affection from an adult in a long time.

Seb doesn't understand why Anna is helping them but she doesn't know herself. She can't see those little kiddies struggling though, and sends Seb upstairs with them to put them in a bubble bath. Faye gets back, having been at the garage avoiding her mother. There are two very surprised faces when Seb and two freshly scrubbed little'uns come in for their tea. Anna has to use all her maternal excuses to talk Kevin round. He's sure they're in for trouble and they probably are.

Gary comes back to surprise Sarah and that he did, bearing gifts, expensive ones. He tells Sarah he's not going to go back to Ukraine and ignores calls from Joe. Izzy has bad news. Jake needs speech therapy, it's why he isn't making friends and gets frustrated easily. Therapy is not cheap if you go private unless he goes back to Ukraine.

The reason Gary seems a bit high strung comes out in the pub when Joe shows up. He insinuates that Gary was a bit thrown after "what happened" and Gary downgrades it to a "bit of a wobble" so it doesn't seem like this Ukraine gig is quite as safe as he keeps telling his women. Sounds very much like Gary had jacked in the job after a bad experience but now, due to the financial burden of Jake's therapy, he wants back in and assures Joe he can handle it. Joe's reluctant but says ok and gives him one more chance.

Gary decides to take Sarah out but David reckons it's about more than just "Happy to see you Darling" and Gary admits he's not quitting the job. Sarah has to work but Gary gets frustrated and starts laying emotional blackmail on her until she finally admits she'll find someone to cover her shift so they can go out to the Bistro but then he's hell bent on a heavy drinking night. He started with champagne and is moving on to tequila. He tries to talk her into a night in a hotel but she has responsibilities. He gets sulky and a bit aggressive there's more of that emotional blackmail but when she stands her ground, he decides to go into town himself to let off steam but he's all kisses and roses the next day, pushing her, again, to dump her shift and again, he gets petulant when she won't be swayed this time. She didn't bend to his emotional blackmail then but did later on when Eva showed up and offered to finish her shift. I wish she'd have held her ground.

But before that, she was working so he goes off to another bar and sees a nice looking woman at the bar whose card is declined. It's Nicola but Gary has never met her. Gary buys her drink for her but she has to take a call and leaves the bar for a minute, just long enough for the Weatherfield Friends to arrive and when Luke spills Nicola's drink which is still on the bar, Gary nearly takes his head off! Good grief! He's antisocial and he's aggressive and his short fuse seems even shorter than usual. Later he made a remark when Nicola got back about someone holding a gun to someone's head. Wait, what?

She's only stressed because of the boyfriend breakup but what on earth has Gary been involved with over in Ukraine? He can admit how dangerous it is to her, someone anonymous. And it was dangerous. He nearly shot someone who was after a child in the house where he was on duty. I bet that doesn't do your PTSD any good, does it? He's clearly sinking into it again. He hasn't even asked her her name and he didn't know who her father was until he got back to Sarah and Nicola got out of a cab. Sarah told him who she was and he got very aggressive with Nicola, told her to keep well away from him. Totally uncalled for.

Gary's back to Ukraine again. Sarah doesn't like it but he's going to do what a man has to do.

Yasmeen is undertaking to train David the Dog and seems to be taking a shine to him. Cathy reminds her she has to give the dog back to David and horrified to discover the dog wee-ed in her slippers. Yasmeen is really pleased with the dog but Cathy is not pleased with the dog hair over everything. She thinks Yasmeen has to give the dog back but Yasmeen is insistent on making sure a lesson is learned even when Cathy tries to get her sympathy for the children missing their pet. It doesn't work and it's clear Yasmeen is besotted with the dog and doesn't want to give it up.

Shona stayed over with David seeing as the kids have had a sleepover at Audrey's. He keeps complaining how quiet the house is. Later, when she's working a shift at the cafe, David comes in, still complaining about the quiet house. She thinks he's missing the dog but he denies it. Well, a little. You do get used to them around. She's working in the cafe and doesn't take a call when her phone rings.

Yasmeen eventually does try to take the dog back but says the dog has become attached to her. She tries to persuade David into letting her keep the dog. David's solution is to test the dog to see who he goes to out on the street. They each try to lure him for a few minutes but the dog sits on the cobbles and doesn't move one way or the other so David the person gets fed up and scoops him up. It's his dog after all. That big buy is still lurking around the corner and this time Shona catches a look and runs across.

This is Dane, her ex and Clayton's father. He realizes that Clayton doesn't know his mother is with the husband of the woman he killed. Sounds like Dane has come around and will be wanting some of that money. But never mind that for the moment. David and Shona and Maria and Will organize a double date but Will spends more time talking to Michelle at the bar! This leads later to he and Maria breaking up, as having not much in common and Maria doesn't really seem all that upset. He was only someone she dated to try to make Aidan jealous anyway.

Eileen's hungover and convinced she made a fool of herself but Phelan's up with the birds getting ready to go to "Inverness". Eileen is still anxious to start working on the house and he manages to put her off going round, for now. But later, she talks about the renovations with Nicola and they decide to go have a look at the house, at least the outside.

Could they make that cellar look any scuzzier? Phelan arrives to fetch Andy who's very, very grateful. He's looking forward to starting somewhere new. Phelan hands him 200 euros. In a rather ironic and nasty trick, the fake passport name is Gavin, harking back to when Andy was pretending to be Michael's son Gavin. What a great touch! Phelan says he's going to miss Andy, or at least miss the sounding board. Andy promises not to breathe a word. You can see the desperation fairly vibrating off him. Phelan ties his hands behind his back just for now.

Poor Andy can barely walk but Phelan loads him in the back of the van in the dark, poor lad. Such a fleeting glimpse of the sun! The air must be fresher, at least. They zip along a back road, Phelan driving far too fast and he loses control of the van. It crashes and Andy is buffeted about in the back. He manages to kick the back doors open and fall out into the sunshine. Phelan is slumped over the steering wheel with a bit of blood on his head. Andy frays at his ropes against a tree to get free but then pulls Phelan's phone out of his pocket to call an amulance. The problem is he doesn't know where they are for one thing and realizes this is his chance to escape. He fetches the passport and runs off into the woods. Phelan's eyes open.

Andy runs as Phelan follows him quietly. Andy's making a lot of noise so it isn't difficult to follow him. Phelan catches up and Andy just stands there. Meanwhile, Eileen and Nicola are at the old house and it turns out that the door was left ajar! Sloppy. Is the jig up? They creep in while Andy is crawling away from his jailer. Turns out the accident was a test and he's failed. I think Andy's physical condition is pretty poor or else I'm sure he'd have kicked Phelan and as Phelan helps him up, he punches him in the face. Andy goes down hard. Eileen and Nicola have had a look upstairs and through the main floor and are about to try the cellar door using tools to unlock it just as Phelan pulls into the driveway and sees Nicola's vehicle.

They are mucking with a screwdriver at the lock and Phelan comes in and scares them. What's he doing there? He's supposed to be in Inverness. He pretends he got the dates wrong. He gives them a bollocking for being in the unsafe house and sends them home with promises of taking them out for their tea though he is a bit taken aback to find out he'd left the door unlocked. He hustles Andy back down into the cellar and forces him to chain himself back to the wall. Phelan shouts at Andy for not sticking to the deal. He doesn't trust him so what is he going to do with him? Good question. Rock, meet hard place.

The next day, Nicola is in fits over the problems with Seb among other things but Phelan is like a bear with a sore backside.

Kirk establishes that Eva will be back tomorrow and is running Maria ragged on errands far and wide in the meantime. So far and wide that she can't pick up Liam. Aidan promises Kirk he'll get Liam himself and look after him until Maria gets back and when she does, she's not pleased that Aidan has Liam. She'd found out about it from David and mentioned to him that things are hot and cold with Will and she doesn't know where she stands with him a lot of the time. Maybe she should straighten her hair and wear heavy eye liner and a push up bra?

When she gets home, she finds Aidan tied up and Liam shooting things at him! She gives Aidan an ear bashing. He reckons she's got a funny way of showing she's over him. All she can think of is accusing him of needing to get over himself. He reminds her that he's marrying Eva. Point to Aidan, I think. Maria takes Liam to the Bistro so she can talk to Michelle about the breakup with Robert. Michelle keeps to the party line and doesn't tell Maria it's all an act though she does say appearances can be deceptive. Eva makes it back, having melted Aidan's credit card on new suitcases and a wedding dress.

On the hen do day, Aidan's looking for a copy of the baby scan for a surprise so Eva reprints one at the pub later on. Jenny's looking forward to a posh restaurant but Eva's looking forward to revenge. I just love how every time someone isn't looking, Eva's face goes cold and nasty and if you've been waiting for her to start taking her revenge on Maria, wait no longer. Eva's planning on making a hen do hell for her along with Jenny and Kate who she thinks were also in on the secret. Leanne and Toyah are starting to realize Eva's getting a bit out of control when they learn that she's cancelled the reservation for the posh restaurant for Jenny's do.

She insisted Maria deliver the scan to Aidan personally. That gives Maria a chance to question Aidan again, wondering how he could start a marraige with a lie. She's so hurt now that she thinks she should expose his affair with her at the altar. Shona's right, though, even though she's exposing an affair, she'll be looked on as the villain.

Kate is still seeing Imogen and Rana is still pouting. There's a lot of double and triple dating going round, too. After the clubbing night with some of the gang, Rana and Zeedan are invited out for the next one. Gary will be in Ukraine so there isn't a danger of him causing trouble again. Zee can't understand why Rana has turned into a cranky mare, though. The triple date didn't work out but Kate talked Rana and Alya into going to the hen do with her at least. At the hen do, Rana got caught rolling her eyes when Imogen and Kate were kissing and Kate accused her of being a homophobe and Kate then came over to the house and told Zeedan the same thing. Rana admits later to Zee that maybe she is homophobic where here parents were and brought her up that way but he insists she's not. So if not, what's up?

Rita is still pretending all is well while Norris and Mary have advance to the finals in the competition. Johnny tells Jenny they've lost a couple of clients so whatever expenses are left should be scaled back and he mentions that Rita is paying for a nice hen do in a restaurant. Gemma helped her with the magazine order, something she'd forgotten to do but Rita is still defensive about it even though she doesn't think her memory issues are a problem.

On the day of the hen do, Rita is looking forward to having fun but didn't really think that the smoothy Gemma tried to make was a good start to a fun day and it didn't end very well at all but we'll get to that later. Rita's paying for that posh meal for Jenny's hen do which seems to be just for the three of them and Gemma's idea is to get her to write out the cheque several times which Rita does because she doesn't remember doing it prior to each subsequent time. But in the pub, Rita really didn't look well, above and beyond having a few drinks.

Jenny was not happy about her table being cancelled and even less happy about having a double hen do with Eva though Gemma was up for it. Rosie really did look like a porn star in that tight short dress with cleavage everywhere. The hen do also welcomed male strippers which totally appalled Jenny even further. But when Gemma showed Rita the cheques, Rita got upset and then collapsed! She regains consciousness but is taken to hospital anyway for tests and Rita, visibly confused, is frightened.

Back to the hen do, Maria is sure she and he are having a fling so seems intent on making trouble there so Eva is determined to make Maria suffer. There's a truth game, "Never have I ever" and one question was to do with sleeping with a mate's boyfriend. Even not counting Aidan, Maria's got a lot of history in that department, all of which was thrown in her face by others. She did agree with Shona and decide not to to anything at the wedding but then Eva had a bridal pinata that was supposed to be filled with chocolates but it was filled with chocolate milk instead and Maria got soaked with it. Naturally Eva did it on purpose but when Maria was cleaning up in the back she found the pretend baby scan copies with the real mother's name on and the penny dropped. Maria backed off and told Eva she wasn't going to the wedding. Leanne gave Eva a gobfull for being too harsh, telling her she's won, but at what cost?

As far as stag do shenanigans, Kate gets a phone call and a name check from Carla (Oooh!) who has sent a big box of something for the stags. It might be called "fancy dress" or just "dress" Yes, Carla has sent women's clothings, for them to dress up in drag. Bad drag. And the three of them decided to encourage Kirk to run for mayor.

Adam has contacted Matthew Singh, he's a former Underworld client and possible rival and offers to give him confidential info about the factory's clients and suppliers. Todd eavesdrops. Will he keep that under his had for a rainy day? It's not as if he's a tattle tale unless it suits him or there's something in it for him. More clients are leaving Underworld and Johnny thinks Matthew Singh is involved.

I wonder how long Robert has to be in jail since he broke his bail conditions? Ah, question answered, he gets a hearing for sentencing because he's pleading guilty. Will isn't wasting any time, is he? He's in there like a dirty shirt. He's assuming Robert will be getting prison time. Finally he and Maria admitted they really aren't getting anywhere as a couple so it looks like that is about to fizzle out. Maria had a go at Adam, too, who also had a go right back at her.

Rich had a court hearing this week with Chesney having to testify but we hear that Rich was pleading guilty so it should be pretty cut and dried there. He got 12 months in prison.

In the Webster house, the sisters are still bickering. Sally threw out all of Gina's unhealthy snacks which she later tells Rosie she did because a healthy diet can be helpful to bi polars and Gina seems to be favouring the Bee as Sally's rival for mayor. Gina keeps trying to trap Sally on policy and Sally keeps avoiding the bait to lure her into political embarassment but it has to come sooner or later. Sally likes the perks of being a politician but she's got a very dim understanding of the foundation bones of it. Gina really seems to be out to bring Sally down and she's dragging Kirk into her plans. He doesn't look to sure about the whole idea.

So now it's wedding day. Adam is eyeing the factory and making plans already. Will's head is on the swivel looking for Michelle. He managed to get himself invited to the wedding as Michelle's plus once since he's split with Maria. Eva's revenge seems to be crumbling slightly when Maria tells her she can't come to the wedding. Neither of them were swinging sincere smiles at the other. Later, she tries to persuade Adam to back off their plans for the factory but he's not having it. He makes her thinks Aidan is still using her and she admits that going to bed with Aidan the night before was a mistake and shakily agrees to let Adam carry on with his dastardly plans but she definitely looks like she's wavering. She does hand over the keys to the kingdom. No going back. Adam passes the keys off to a man later.

Maria tries to tell Aidan that Eva and Adam have something up, though she thinks it might be an affair but Aidan won't let her get the words out so she hisses that she hopes he has a spectacular day.

Over at the pub, Toyah tells Peter that Eva's going to dump Aidan at the altar over his affair with Maria. Peter thinks it's a big waste of time and money but Toyah reckons Aidan has it all coming to him. In the end, Peter decides to skip the wedding, too, help Sarah and maybe take Simon to a movie.

Michelle has a quick visit to Robert at the prison after she's dressed up and hair done for the wedding. Will has been following her in his car as well, camera in hand taking photos of her as she walks into the compound. She's still freaked out that someone else is out there though he thinks the stalker was after him, not her and it's over because he's banged up. When she comes out, there's a white rose on her car and she completely freaks.

Toyah and Leanne are gobsmacked that Eva slept with Aidan and she's definitely wavering. She does still have feelings and Leanne urges her to call off the plan, pretend she's miscarried and end the revenge plan. Aidan comes in to get his phone charger and is all lovey dovey to her after telling her Maria isn't coming to the wedding. Toyah pokes a stick and it seems like she's almost as keen for the revenge, probably because she hates Maria, too. Leanne nearly had Eva talked into dropping the plan but not anymore. Eva is starting to recover her nerve even though Leanne refuses to be part of it and isn't coming to the wedding either, now. That seems to give Eva another pause for thought.

I guess Maria has a plan of her own, though, because she gets out of a taxi in front of the grand country house where the wedding will be held and even has a little overnight case with her. Whatever she's going to do, it must be more than a strike and flee thing. Maybe she hopes that when she exacts her own revenge, Aidan will come back to her and spend the night with her instead, in the honeymoon suite? I don't know but we'll find out soon enough.

Kate and Aidan meet up in the pub and we establish that he and Eva will go first at the wedding in case Johnny and Jenny do get the chance to get there later. Kate has a morality tale for Aidan that presses every guilt button he has. He decides to come clean and storms into the back to talk to Eva. He's very emotional when he tells her he loves her and the baby and then he lowers the boom. He has to confess the truth. He had an affair and he hates himself. He begs for her forgiveness as the credits for that episode end.

Rita is still in the hospital and Jenny and Gemma are by her side. Jenny had the chance to use a shower in the hospital but Gemma stripped down to her bra and did a quick swill and squirt! Will Jenny and Johnny get married? Jenny thinks they probably can but they're waiting for the MRI results first. But Rita goes missing and they can't find her, with Gemma getting more and more (loudly) wound up with worry resulting in what is probably the line of the night, "How do you lose a patient? It's a human being! It's not as if it were sunglasses or your virginity!" delivered with exactly the right amount of worry and frustration at the top of her voice! Jenny's threat to the nurses about coming for them if anything has happened to Rita is a lot more scary!

We see Rita wandering the halls and she finds a room of older people with one guy playing old war tunes on a keyboard. She seems to think she's late for her gig and joins him and starts singing. She's still got the pipes, doesn't she? Jenny finds her there, is relieved but doesn't make a big fuss, nor does Gemma, even when Rita refers to herself as Littlewood and seems firmly in the past. Johnny understands that Rita is more important than the wedding.

Also on the wedding day, Mr. and Mrs. competition is ramping up and Norris and Mary are off to the radio studios where they meet Colin, the presenter. Norris is worried about trying to remember all the fake relationship guff they made up. Mary's solution is to eat from the light buffet presented so their blood sugar doesn't drop. Anyway, Colin remembers all the details that Mary and Norris submitted to describe themselves. In intense detail. He's not the head of marketing for the competition sponsor for nothing! He's very pompous, referring to himself in the third person. He's also kind of creepy. And unfortunate. His ex got his string of newsagent shops and turned them into yogurt shops! Oh, the Humanity!

Later, even though this competition finale is held on the radio, Colin has Mary getting a free makeover though brushes of the other woman who is a finalist as well and he pulls them in to be front and centre in a group photo. Favouritism seems to be quite obvious. But why?
