Corrie star helps keeps Georgina Anderson's legacy alive

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog July 2016, reposted to this blog with permission.)

Driving back from a weekend away we were listening to BBC Tees in the car.  They featured a lovely story which included Coronation Street's Melanie Hill (Cathy) and it's definitely worth sharing here.

Melanie Hill - Cathy Matthews in Corrie - heard about a teenager called Georgina Anderson, who has now sadly passed away at the age of just 15.  Georgina wrote and recorded a song - Two Thirds of a Piece - and Melanie arranged for the song to be played in the background during a scene in the Rovers which was televised on December 23 last year.

Royalties from the song are being split between Teenage Cancer Trust and Cancer Research UK.

Georgina's dad Paul said: “I was chatting to Melanie one day and it cropped up about Georgina’s song. Jokingly, I said Georgina would have loved to be on Coronation Street and I didn’t suppose she could get her song on it. The next thing we knew, there it was, playing in the background. It was very appropriate, too, because it was during a discussion about childhood cancer - it was done very deliberately. It was beautiful and Georgina would have been absolutely ecstatic because she was a massive Coronation Street fan. And every time more money comes in, it adds to the lovely legacy she has left.”

You can listen to the song, below and of course donate here:
