Sunday Comments Sept. 3

Dev found the kebab shop empty of staff and full of punters helping themselves. Where's Chesney? He's getting help at the medical centre from Rana who diagnosed it as a panic attack. Dev is furious but Sinead is worried. Chesney wants to keep the panic attack secret. Dev isn't going to understand if Chesney doesn't tell him the reason he left his post. He didn't tell Dev and ended up quitting. Something's not right here but nobody knows what it is aside from we viewers. He told Fiz he quit and he wants to do more with his life. She was actually supportive even if she's not keen on Sinead.

Chesney is determined not to go back working for Dev. He needs a new challenge. Onward and upward but he's not telling Sinead about his panic attack, either. Chesney isn't getting on too well with his nieces who want to go out and burn off some energy. Chesney doesn't want to leave the safety of his home. He never showed up to meet Dev and that's not making Dev happy. Cathy keeps trying to help but he sees it as interfering and is really quite rude.

Gemma is dismayed that Chesney has quit his job and very hurt that Chesney is unrepentant and won't consider coming back. Cathy does try to play peacemaker between he and Dev, even organizing a meeting between the two so Chesney can apologize. But Chesney is having difficulty convincing himself to get out of the house later, and offers to babysit for Fiz, giving him an excuse to stay in. Gemma was also upset after Jenny made an uncalled for joke at her expense. Rita urged Jenny later to ask Gemma to be a bridesmaid but even though Rita says it's important to her and to Gemma, Jenny is not quite sure that's the image she wants to project on her wedding day and tells Rita she'll think about it.

Meanwhile, two rough and ready old mates of Gemma's come to the kebab shop. She's pleased to see them and bigs up her job and her nice flat, eventually taking them back to Rita's for loud music and all of Rita's booze. The music brings Rita upstairs in a fury but not before one of them sees a postit note on the cupboard with the Kabin security code on it and takes a photo of it. Oh heck. Rita is so upset that she comes across very scatterbrained and dotty which only makes the two young strangers abuse her more. Gemma looks uncomfortable and is herself rejected by her "friends" and she does apologize to Rita. Poor girl feels like she has no friends at all so scallies like those two were better than nothing.

Jenny did cheer her up by asking her to be a bridesmaid though the invite was a bit cack-handed. She was genuinely apologetic and they made up. But they left the Kabin, Rita setting the alarm but she forgot to actually lock up. The nasty estate girls came back and walked right into the Kabin. What did they steal? Candy and a bit of tobacco it looks like. They'd get a lot more cash out of the cigs and tobacco, that's what they should have loaded up on rather than big jars of pick and mix.

The breakin wasn't discovered until the morning when Norris arrived. Rita doesn't remember she didn't lock the door and is sure she did. The police reckon someone had a key in that case and oh look, Rita's purse has been robbed as well. Did anyone notice, did Rita leave it in the Kabin when she and Gemma left? She must have or the girls robbed it up in the flat earlier. Rita out and out accused Gemma as being part of the robbery but Jenny is on Gemma's side for a change until she overheard Gemma talking trash about Rita and took it the wrong way. Now Rita is really upset and feels very let down by the girl she took in. She won't accept that Gemma is innocent, not at all. Doesn't seem to have any flashes of doubt whatsoever which seems a bit out of character for Rita but there you go. She even called the police!

Cathy tried to get Rita to rethink her decision. Cathy believes in Gemma. Everyone is talking about her, though. Gemma was questioned by the police and she turned in her mates, grassed them up. I noticed that Gina had no good words for Gemma but then we find out that Rita lent Gina 100 quid (which was what Gina was hoping for, sucking up to Rita there a few days ago). She went to Rita and reminded her. Yes, Rita had forgotten, in another incidence of that worrying memory loss she's been having.

Gary has to try to convince Sarah not to come to "Hamburg". He tries to tell her Bethany needs her there but Sarah reckons Bethany could use a break, too! But Sarah backed down herself. It *is* only 10 days, after all. Gary's signing on the dotted line for his contract. He's due to head out the day after. Sounds like Sarah is actually going to get some support, a parents' support session that will help her understand what's happening with Bethany. Gary is worried about the job but determined to go. Sarah just worries he'll get hurt on a building site.

Gary had to have a certificate of health and Alya thought it was strange to see him in the health centre. I can't imagine why. Maybe it had more to do with him lying to Sarah about what he was there for. Gary admitted what was happening, Ukraine vs Hamburg and yes, it's dangerous. She tried to talk him out of it but he believes he's doing it for his family and won't be told. He decided to give Alya letters to pass on to his loved ones in case anything happens but one fell on the floor of the cafe, one addressed to Sarah and she passed it over later. Gary hugged Sarah like it was the last time he was going to see her. He thinks it's possible but it makes her a bit suspicious, combined with the letter. She doesn't know what the real story is but she's determined to find out before he gets on the plane. Let's hope he gets back in one piece.

Sally and Tim are noticing that Gina is spending more and more and yet has a handbag full of final notices (utility bills? credit cards? where is this woman living?) Sally worries that her sister is having a bi-polar episode but Gina assures her she's got it all under control. Clearly she hasn't. Sally made a mention of Rita bailing her out some years back and now Gina seems to be spending time between hovering and sucking up to Rita and winking to and flirting with Dev. She's still spending money, supposedly selling off stuff at Cash Converters and she impressed Sally by saying she asked Dev for a job at the kebab shop. It's not about paying off her debts though, is it? It's about getting her mitts on Dev's wallet!

Steve's flowers went walkabout so he's demanding that Tracy have them brought there to the pub. I really thought that Tracy was finally over Steve but now I'm having a strange feeling that she's starting to revisit those old feelings again. Mary seems to think so, too. Anyway, the flowers finally showed up but Tracy wrote out something very adult oriented on the card and when Leanne read it, she slapped Steve for it though she did apologize. Later, Leanne and Steve had the talk. They make much better friends and she gave him back his ring. Tracy takes all the credit for it!

Rosie is on a mission to get that job. She emailed the potential divorcee the incriminating evidence but it didn't end up with a client for the firm. The warring couple are going to try to repair their marriage. Really, though, Rosie was a free agent so they can't really hold her actions against her. She got the job anyway and is all excited, she's moving up in the world! Have the writers really forgotten she was Carla's PA or are they going to try to convince us that Rosie herself has forgotten? Looks like Luke and Alya's relationship is progressing. They spent the night together, though didn't "do" anything and Rana reckons she has to decide what it is she wants and go for it, whatever it is. Kate still thinks they're all just friends but she's in for a shock. I can understand her discomfort, feeling like a third wheel.

Shona had a chat to Bethany who's freaking out a bit waiting for the court date and she was very good with her, assuring her she was not stupid for falling for Nathan's lies. Poor kid, he really did a number on her self esteem. Shona further distracted her by asking her to do her hair. She didn't think David would be there but he came home before they were finished so Shona high tailed it out. David was surley though. Liz is doing some online shopping at work but had a bit of of trouble with her bank card. Turns out she paid for a free vape scheme and had to pass over her bank details, like a subscription for them once the free ones were sampled. Rana gave her the bad news. It's a scam and she's lost all her savings! Nicola has come to see Phelan because she's looking to buy a flat. She wants his second opinion. Todd still doesn't like Phelan but seemed to be a bit more understanding regarding his and Nicola's budding father daughter relationship. The flat seemed ok more or less to him. Advice taken but the developer didn't take kindly to the lower offer based on valid reasons so Phelan stuck his oar in.

Mary chats with Jude via Skype (or an un-named video chat probably cleverly named something similar). But Aadi and Asha get in on it and they tell Jude about the upcoming wedding because Aadi can't keep a secret. Backed into a corner, Mary has to admit to Jude that she and Norris will soon be Mr. and Mrs. Norris. Jude is flabberghasted but their connection isn't very good so he rings off. After he goes, Mary shouts at the kids. Later she tells Norris that Jude is coming to the wedding. He's dismayed that she didn't tell Jude that the wedding isn't for real. She is determined to carry it all off because she wants Jude to be there. Now Norris is worried they can't pull it off. Adam spilled the beans in the flower shop about the wedding. Mary hadn't even told Tracy but Tracy didn't believe him but it's true. In the pub she was hardly flattering but Norris took Mary's side and put Tracy in her place, pretending their new feelings took them both by surprise.

Eva's in a panic over the scan that's scheduled. Well, she shouldn't have booked it, should she? She's lied about everything else, she should have lied about booking that! Toyah's helping her print one from the internet. Tangled web and all that. She's going to have to start padding her stomach soon if she doesn't figure this all out. Aidan was thrilled to see the scan photo that she gave him after she had him delayed so the police could check him for drinking and driving. Remember those flowers she thought he was buying for Maria? They were to put on his mother's grave as it was her birthday. I think her guilt just notched up a few more points.

Eva's starting to crack under the pressure and has decided to end the revenge plot and find a way to tell Aidan they're finished and there's no baby. She just wants it all to be over. Fate has other things in store. Further guilt is pressed on her when she joins the Connor clan to toast their late mother as it's her birthday. Or the other day was, when Aidan bought those flowers. I'm not sure which. Anyway, Eva went to Adam and told him she was dropping their plans and could she have the hard drive back? Turns out what I thought was an internal drive looks like one of those external ones so I can get my head around Eva knowing how to put that back and just possibly they might not have realized it was missing if they weren't looking for any documents on it.

So there's Eva, crouched under the desk in the office about to replace the hard drive on the computer. Johnny and Aidan come into the office. Oh heck! Then she overhears a conversation that makes it clear that Johnny has known of Aidan and Maria's affair and how long it's been going on. She's smoking she's so furious! She goes to the pub later to tell Toyah and Leanne and she's going to take the whole family down. A woman scorned!

First step is to hint that she wants to bring the wedding forward. Jenny is not keen on sharing her day or her biscuit, not at all. Aidan didn't push the issue, doesn't want to make waves with Jenny so Eva works on him, stirring the pot. But Sean didn't do himself any favours by comparing Jenny in a negative light with the lovely Eva, did he? What evil looks she was shooting Sean! Aidan took Eva's lies to his father and he obviously insisted they share their wedding day with Aidan and Eva. Jenny was not best pleased and Eva is coldly determined.

She also brought the external hard drive back to Adam and when he finds out what she thinks about all the clan knowing about the affair, he's determined to help her decimate them all. She still feels a bit guilty, like she's going a bit too far and doesn't recognize herself. He suggests she get away for a bit of a break and let him take the reins for a bit. He admits he was in it for the money at first but isn't now and she thinks he's actually got a heart, now. She's taking up Adam's suggestion and going to see her mother in France but was not very convincing when Johnny suggested Stella come here in stead. (NoooOO!!!!!) And it looks like ADam has a thing for Eva, likely his motivation behind helping her. You know once it all blows up, he'll be there to pick up the pieces!

It seems like Maria and Aidan are likely finished because of the baby. She saw Adam nearly kiss Eva and told Aidan about it but he didn't believe Eva would do to him what he did to her. He's right but the seeds of suspicion are sowed, I think. He even warned Adam off. Maria noticed Adam looked smitten but Eva brushed it off. She's got something to ask, she wants Maria to do some of her wedding planning and sorting out the hen do while she's in France. Sounds like quite a list for Maria to work through. She really rubbed it in, gushing about her happiness and praising Maria to the skies. Meanwhile, Adam is looking forward to the wedding day, it sounds like he's anticipating an end result for a possible ownership change of the factory. A coup as it were.
