Has Coronation Street turned unpleasant?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog April 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

I've been away over the Easter weekend staying with my mother-in-law in a very nice part of Yorkshire.  She takes a different newspaper to the one we have at home and I picked it up over a lull in the chocolate-eating at the weekend to see this letter, above.

It's a rant against Coronation Street and despite my best efforts for I like to see the good in everything Corrie-wise, I did find myself in agreement with some of it.  The use of the word unpleasant is telling in the letter. I sucked in air though my teeth when the pig's heart was revealed and muttered 'Ooh, there's no need for that."

But maybe I'm an old fuddy-duddy who needs to get a life. I'm wondering what you, dear readers, think to the letter above?

Agree? Disagree? Let us know your thoughts!

I agree with that letter...as I have said before, there is far too much murder/jail/drugs/criminal activity for such a small group of people on a few nearby streets. I don't find it at all realistic as it used to be. What happened to the daily banter and good humor of many of the street residents? Amy Barlow has so much to give without being another nasty teenager. The David and Maria storyline has been entertaining, we need more of that lightheartedness.

I agree that the heart was a step too far. There are just too many dark storylines. Sally's story pales compared with what's going on with Bethany Platt. Will Kevin ever find out that Pat was responsible for the downfall of the garage? I'm so glad to see Gemma back - we'll need some light. I don't mind the 'Who Pushed Ken' storyline though, his kids (and Adam, especially Adam) are a really low bunch. All that squabbling over alibis, who loves him the most and who's on who's side...fun.
