Tyrone's birthday and he didn't want any fuss but Kirsty is organizing a surprise birthday party. But since Fiz doesn't work at the factory anymore and has absolutely no contact with anyone anymore (sarcasm) she reckoned she'll go see him while Kirsty is out with the girls. Kirsty wanted it to be a night he'll never forget. She got that right! After everything Tyrone and Fiz went through after they split up, and the disaster Fiz went through with Stape especially, Yes, i bet faithful old Tyrone looks pretty good right now. And the classic soap moment... Big kiss, door opens. Will they get caught?
Well, no they won't get caught. That would spoil everything and Soap Law says the story has to play out longer than that. Poor Fiz has to hide behind the little bar with nothing but a birthday cake and a can of beer for company. Torture! Emily put Fiz's card to Tyrone on the shelf with the others. That was helpful. Kirsty uttered the Phrase of Doom, saying that Ty's birthday was all perfect. Yep, most definitely going to go downhill from there and sure enough, Kirsty found Fiz's card. Uh oh! But you know, under other circumstances, if you suspected your partner of having an affair with someone and that someone's affectionate birthday card shows up, you'd be pretty upset too.
The day after the night before, and Kirsty's still shaking with rage. She sliced up all Ty's cards except Fiz's and that takes calculated fury, not impulse. Did Tyrone manage to put her off the scent? Maybe not and Fiz isn't inclined to tell any more lies to back up Tyrone though I'm sure she will anyway. Tyrone is too scared of Kirsty and too frightened of losing the baby to stand up for himself and everyone thinks Fiz is stalking Tyrone. Wasn't it lovely listening to Tyrone telling the vicar about his life and hopes for a family, just not with Kirsty but he didn't say that. Kirsty went off on one when he talked about the burger van with Molly. Oh for heavens' sake woman, there's no competition there!
The next near miss... Kirsty almost goes to the cafe while Tyrone is there. But no. Didn't catch them together that time, either but Roy has a toy in the cafe that Fiz claims was Hope's but Kirsty knows it proves Tyrone was there and lied. That on top of everything else, and she blew her top.
The morning after, Sorry doesn't mend those bruised and aching bones. Surely him insisting on a wedding after her beating him black and blue must make her suspicious? How did Tyrone manage to hold that baby or later, make love to Fiz when he couldn't even open the bottle of painkillers or barely move his arm away from his chest? And naturally, snogging in the ginnel is going to get you seen. Tina! But... of all the people that could catch you, Tina is going to be the most sympathetic. Tina hates Kirsty more than she's disillusioned with Ty. She and Ty made up and she's letting them use her flat. I suppose they can always leave Ruby in her basket or Kirsty will hear about all the baby sitting Emily is doing. They're playing a dangerous game though.
Kirsty says she can tell when he's lying so how is he managing to be convincing? He and Fiz have their own secret Christmas where he's given her a lovely antique rose gold necklace and she gives him a pay as you go phone with a top up so he can text her behind Kirsty's back. She says she transferred the photos she took of his bruised body to his new phone. You know that's going to come back and bite them both. Tyrone manages to keep Kirsty in the dark when he gets home because Fiz made sure he had a believable story about his visit. Some people think that this blossoming romance between Fiz and Tyrone has wrecked this storyline but I think Fiz is Tyrone's lifeline. He's drowning, desperate and Fiz is the only hope he's got and that's a problem. There is history there, and affection but can you build a relationship on one person being a refuge for the other from fear and violence?
It's breaking my heart seeing Tyrone in such a horrible place, doubting himself, self esteem down the toilet. Fiz is determined to defend him as best she can. Fiz is right about taking photos and that might be the only thing that saves him unless Kirsty gets hold of the phone somehow. Is there going to be a happy ending for Tyrone? Eileen's been watching and listening. Maybe she'll be the one that realizes there's more going on than everyone thinks. What powerful stuff that all was!
The future of the factory seems a bit uncertain. Rob thinks whoever buys it will keep it as a factory. You just never know. But he's decided to buy it himself. He reckons, no down payment, no security, yes the banks will be falling all over themselves to lend Michelle and Rob money. Rob's trying to find investors and not having much luck. But he's got another plan, he is having the factory valued and hopes it gets a low evaluation. With a little help, perhaps? Definitely. Michelle isn't in on it but it won't look good. Rob reckons he can get away with it and Carla won't find out until it's far too late. Thick? Yep. Carla will know damn well the valuation is incorrect and yep, in addition to Peter, you know that was the other thing that had her back in Weatherfield.
I've never been a fan of Rob's over much but I'm disliking him more and more. I think they're trying to make him into a mini-Mike Baldwin but even Mike was willing to give in on the annual Christmas do a bit easier than Rob seems to be. You know, Maybe Stella should have taken Rob up on his offer when he flirted with her? He's still a terrible match for her but slightly better than Jason.
Peter probably wouldn't have stayed if Simon hadn't got to the airport. And Deirdre is right, it's going to cause trouble and Peter wasted no time. He headed straight to the betting shop and decided he and Leanne could work together. Well, it *is* his business primarily. He owns it. And he owns the flat so Beth is going to be out on her ear. Leanne and Peter looked pretty cozy all crumpled on the ice, captured in all it's digital glory by Simon. Has he got his own phone? Peter is now glad he stayed (for Simon) but was talking all pretty and expressing regrets. Sure to soften Leanne's heart and maybe that was his hope. Carla Who? And Nick isn't feeling the love either.
Simon showed Nick the photos he took of Leanne and Peter. Very close up. Simon was standing quite a way away. There must be a good zoom on that phone. Eva isn't helping with her passive aggressive "kindly" digs at Leanne's expense. Well it turned out that the big lunch booking was a hoaxNick blames Peter. I don't think Peter would have thought about it but Eva certainly would and did and as usual, doesn't think about the repercussions and how it could affect Simon. . But Nick couldn't keep it in. He made an idiot of himself at the play. Ok, the play was interrupted. Was that any reason to cancel it altogether? pull yourself together and carry on. The show must go on! He's not really changed has he, since the days he lured Peter back into the bottle to break he and Leanne up. Meanwhile, Peter is giving Leanne funny looks in that California cool way of his these days.
Nick and Leanne arrive for the apology. You can see Peter trying to be his most charming self and something i've noticed before and Leanne seems to have taken note of, he's still wearing his wedding band.
The hen party was pretty rowdy, Later, the hens and factory bees all headed into town where much alcohol was drunk. Leanne reverted back to Battersby and got into a barney with a random woman in the club. She mouthed off at Stella and Gail and was really hurtful. Leanne leaves the party after and gets home staggering with Peter determined to talk to her before it's too late. Leanne is smoking and being defiant towards Peter who is still calm personified. He is biding his time, you notice? He can press every one of her buttons. He knows damn well she's only marrying Nick on the rebound and he tries to convince her not to marry Nick. He even tries to work on her feelings for him and nearly succeeds until Stella and Eva come home. But she does admit to her mother later that she's having doubts and Peter goes home and later finds Carla at his door. She just couldn't stay away!
Kylie's intent on teaching David a lesson and Nick is getting tired of David's mopey face under foot. David's cold towards Kylie and Kylie is determined that she's not going to be the one to give in and give up first. Poor Max is caught in the middle as Gail rightly points out. They were both in the wrong and neither one is about to back down first. Meanwhile at the stag do in the Bistro, the lads seemed to be having a good time, but drunken David was absolutely vile to Kylie. Tina tries to talk to him again while Nick feels bad for Kylie and tries to make excuses for David. Problem is, she was still ready to give him a chance and she sees David and Tina hugging in a friendly way and she goes off again. There's no way Kylie is going to believe him now. She's desperately hurt and it doesn't look good does it?
Looks like Karl and the kids have an armed truce ongoing and Karl is most definitely jealous of Jason. I suppose he figures making fun of Jason will work but it doesn't. Insulting the new fella isn't going to make St. Ella feel warm and fuzzy about the old one. Stella wants to talk to him so he sucks up to Sunita by making a cuppa. Sunita is turning into a dissatisfied nag isn't she? Karl went running to Stella, you know he figures she is ready to come back to him. Not likely. She's making sure he's got the message that they're done. End of. And from the look of things, he wasn't in any mood to go back to Sunita, either. Stella warned Sunita off Karl, imparting her own experience and telling her he was crawling back to her but Sunita didn't believe her. Or at least she said she didn't. I think she touched a few nerves even before she said Karl was wanting to come back to her. It's been obvious for some time that they are mismatched and I think she knows it down deep.
LOL: Craig telling Beth he's not in school because it's a teachers' shopping day! Oh dear, the turkey's may have been stolen. Get rid of the rest of the turkeys, chuck them into the canal. Turkeys float. Did you expect that? They didn't! Chesney lied to Beth and said they sold the turkeys. Problem. No cash to show for it. And what to do about the orders? Buy them at Freshcos! Aw poor Simon has stage fright but he did fine in the end. After all, he had the script in front of him. Why was he worried about forgetting the words? Roy's going to be on his own for Christmas dealing with weighty Trollops (that's an author, by the way. Anthony Trollop). Can there possibly be room for Beth and Craig in Maria's tiny flat too? Proof positive that all the dwellings in the Street have elastic walls. I'm with Maria, i wouldn't be too happy with a Rat in residence either.
Marcus is worried about his parents' visit. When he sees Sean bring Dylan, Sean blows him off and you can see it breaks Marcus' heart. Marcus is a glutton for punishment, trying to give Dylan a gift and Sean was rude to him again. awww. Ryan's hinting strongly that Sophie likes Jenna more than she's letting on but Sophie is trying to play her cards close to her chest. We can all see where this is going. He sees how she is when she gives Jenna the gift she bought and calls her on it but Sophie protests (too much?) but you can see it's true.
