Corrie Christmas wish list - Tisha Merry

TISHA MERRY - CHRISTMAS Q&A 2015

Will your character be having a merry Christmas this year?
Oh my goodness yes, Andy takes Steph away after everything she has been through and it will be a fresh start.

Make a NY resolution for your character…
Never ever do naked pictures again! Also she is quite nosey Steph so I would tell her to keep her nose out.

What’s your favourite Christmas board game?
Articulate - we play it every year and it gets very heated on Christmas Day!

What’s your Christmas tipple?
Baileys.

Turkey or otherwise?
Turkey definitely.

Where’s your favourite place to spend Christmas?
My gran’s house, always for the last 18 years.

Best Christmas tip?
My favourite Christmas tip is to make sure you have had a good clear out of old stuff to make space for the new stuff!

Any Christmas disasters?
Yes last year I was really looking forward to getting the JLo autobiography. And my mum had got me the Spanish version by mistake! I was devastated.

Favourite Christmas memory…
When I got my Playstation 1. I am a big gamer and I wasn’t expecting it.

Christmas Day...cheese or chocolate?
Chocolate.

Sprouts...devil or delicious?
I hate them! Every year my grandma tries to put a bit of bacon or something in but they are just sprouts eurgh!

Christmas Day...PJs or fancypants?
Fancy everything. I plan the clothes, the makeup, the nails, the hair!

If you could spend Christmas Day in any other country where would you spend it?
I would love to go to New York.

Favourite Christmas film?
Home Alone and The Holiday.

Favourite Christmas song or carol?
Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song.

Describe your perfect Christmas…
All the family round at my grandma’s; family, food, sisters, toys, playing games, dressed up to the nines.

Favourite Corrie Christmas...yours, your characters, or a scene off screen!
It’s probably the scene in the bistro where Nick smacked Leanne, it was a big old shock when it happened.

What would you like to find in your Christmas stocking?
An hourglass make-up palette for contouring

You have one spot left at the dinner table..Who would you give it to, anyone past or present?
Tom Hardy - that would be a Christmas to remember and worth getting dressed up for.

Tisha Merry talks Corrie's revenge porn storyline

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog November 2015, reposted to this blog with permission.)

I'm a big fan of Tisha Merry, who plays Steph Britton on Coronation Street. And I'm a big fan of Steph too although I reckon Steph would already have made mincemeat out of dopey Jamie by now.

Tisha was interviewed on ITV's Lorraine about the revenge porn storyline.  Coming up on Corrie, Steph finds out about Jamie's bribe and photographs, but is unable to stop Jamie from posting them.

Tisha talked about what it's like tackling a sensitive issue that can affect anyone, often with traumatic consequences.

She said: "I hope when people watch it they think, 'I'm not going to do that, I'm going to think twice, this is what can happen'."

Tisha has been on Corrie for almost three years now. Hasn't time flown?!

Steph Britton - Coronation Street's hidden gem

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog June 2015, reposted to this blog with permission.)

Tisha Merry, who plays Steph Britton, is a little belter. There, I've said it.  Tisha as Steph has been on Coronation Street for just over two years now and she just keeps on getting better with every appearance.

We don't know that much about Steph. She arrived as a friend for Katy Armstrong, flirted with Ryan Connor, left and returned again later the same year. She was then given a job as a waitress at the Bistro and has been there ever since.

While Steph has been a part of some major storylines, she's never really had one of her own. She moved in with Tina and tried to make Tina see sense when Tina revealed she was having a fling with Peter Barlow.  When Tina died, instead of going to the funeral, Steph, Luke and Katy celebrated Tina's life by releasing balloons, a nice touch.  And since then, she's continued to serve in the Bistro while recently being caught up in the Platt family drama.

Nick's promoted Steph to Bistro supervisor, and that girl can stand her ground with the best of them. She's sassy, fun, intelligent, great to watch and is one of those characters, for me, who light up the screen when they come on.  Along with Gary Windass and Izzy Armstrong, Steph is one of the  younger generation that I really love watching.  She's not given any especially funny or fancy dialogue, she just puts a sparkle into everything she does.  She's a backstreet Bistro bobby-dazzler.

More please, Corrie.

Another Great Britton

(This post was originally posted by Graeme N on the Coronation Street Blog in June 2015.)

The other week Flaming Nora published a blog singing the praises of the Corrie character Steph Britton. I was in full agreement, Tisha Merry has been a ray of sunshine on the cobbles of Weatherfield. It's nice to see a young character come on in Corrie without the usual baggage or being made to look old before their time. Long may she continue to brighten up our favourite street.

This made me think how much I enjoy both Britton siblings on screen. Steph's brother Luke has been in Corrie for a while now and I really like Dean Fagan, I think he brings a lot of charm to the role. I also think they make for a very believable brother and sister double act. It's just a shame they haven't really been given a major storyline of their own so far.

Luke's main role since arriving in the street has been as suitor to Maria. While I have no problem with this at all and it has been cute to see him win her and Liam over, I do fear for his long term future as past boyfriends have not faired well with the Corrie crimper. Sadly they haven't really had a great deal of screen time together either which hasn't helped. Luke has also been effective in his role as mechanic alongside Kevin and Tyrone - his banter with the latter in particular has been great fun. While Luke and Steph have great chemistry as siblings we haven't had enough opportunities to see them together in anything significant. I know certain storylines can dominate and at times but these two are crying out for something more to get their teeth into.

I must confess to having fallen for Luke's significant charms, but trying to be impartial, I still think he's a character with plenty of promise. I think both Brittons have something fresh to contribute to Coronation Street at a time when some viewers feel it could do with a few changes.

So do you agree that Luke should feature in a more prominent storyline? And if so, what should it be?

Tisha Merry on the future for Corrie's Steph

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog March 2013, reposted to this blog with permission.)

There's a good interview on Digital Spy with Coronation Street newcomer Tisha Merry, who plays Steph Britton,

Digital Spy recently chatted to Tisha Merry, who plays Steph, for her thoughts on the ongoing storyline and life at Corrie.  It's a good read.

Tisha says that when she found out that she was being brought back on a permanent basis into the show, she was absolutely over the moon.

Read the interview here (contains a major spoiler).
