In tonight's Coronation Street we'll see desperate Eva propose to boyfriend Aidan in the Rovers with a full mariachi band behind her.  She's not one for understatement, is Eva, and never has been.

Let's have a look back a t9 of her most fantastic frocks from Coronation Street

1. The minute you walk in the joint... Eva on the karaoke in that fabulous red frock.

3. At the Jubilee Street Party as Madonna. If you've got it, stick it in a cone bra and flaunt it.

4. If you're going to have a showdown in the back room of the Rovers Return, do it in style and knock 'em dead. She does like wearing a red frock, does Eva.

Looking back over these pictures of Eva dolled up made me realise what an absolute goddess she is. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that Eva's a Corrie icon. Ooh, a feel another blog post coming on.

In Pics: Gemma Winter - Coronation Street's new fashion queen

Last night on Coronation Street, Gemma Winter stole the show - once again. In her wonderful funeral attire she set twitter ablaze. She knows how to dress, does Gemma, especially for a funeral.

After Kylie's funeral our blogger Emma pointed out on twitter "When you're so street, your outfit matches the local graffiti"

Now then, here's the part where I put on my Corrie anorak and fasten it tight.  A week or so ago, I noticed something in a scene after Kylie's death when David was in the hair salon on his own.  He was having a bit of a moment as Kylie's death hit him hard. On the chair in the salon was Kylie's pink hoodie. David pulled it to him and breathed in Kylie's scent from the pink hoodie, one of Kylie's favourite items of clothing...

And then the camera panned to the bus stop, where Gemma was sitting waiting for the Weatherfield Wayfarer. Gemma too was wearing a pink hoodie under her jacket.

It was as if the mantle of the pink hoodie had been passed on.
 

But there is one outfit in which Gemma always looks smart, if not totally comfortable...

Liz McDonald - Corrie's Fashion Queen

Beverley Callard, who plays Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, tweeted today that she thought Liz deserved her own range of clothing for sale. I couldn't agree more.

Weatherfield's followers of fashion

I almost feel ashamed to be attempting to make any comments on fashion whatsoever. For me, clothes are an endless cycle of jeans, NEXT shirts and the odd (some very odd) commemorative t-shirt from Hard Rock Café. A follower of London Fashion Week I am not. Neither are many of the folk down on the cobbles.

Ok so there are a few givens. This is a not particularly prosperous part of northern England. Wages will not be particularly high, especially as most of the Corrie residents spend their lives scrabbling for a pittance within a hundred yards of their front doors. However, this should not be an excuse for some of the fashion faux pas moments on offer recently.

Take Leanne. In fact, please someone take Leanne and drag her around the shops. In Friday's episode she did her usual stomp'n'frown march whilst decked out in a particularly nasty mac. This article seemed to accompany her from dawn till dusk, buttoned up to the neck and in a refreshing shade of mushroom. No wonder poor old Kal had to resort to his 'Droopy' face again. Who wants a girlfriend trotting around looking like Mrs Overall?

Poor old Fiz always looks as though she has emerged from a fight with a jumble sale. The woman appears to be swathed in layers and layers of chunky knit which may explain why she always looks as though she is about to keel over.

Viewers were offered no explanation for Michelle's little black number last night. She seemed to be reaching for that elusive 'strumpet who suddenly realises she has an audience with the pope' look. It's not a style that many can get away with and needless to say, neither did Michelle.

Of course, the main dish on offer in the Corrie fashion stakes this week was the hideous creation sported by both Sinead and Kaytah. A garment so tarty that even Liz MacDonald would have balked at the idea of hauling herself into it. Sinead suits simple and Katie? Well, we probably don't really care but probably something that goes well with mahogany.

It's more difficult to be critical of the blokes. Some of Tim's t-shirts look like rags and most of Steve's shirts appear to have been designed for someone else. Peter is usually turned out well and there's a whiff of NEXT about Rob.

We're often asked where you can find the clothes fans' have seen characters wearing on Coronation Street. And with the help of the Coronation Street wardrobe team, we've been able to help and answer queries.

Well, now there's a website dedicated to finding the clothes you see worn on TV, including Corrie.  It's Spotted.tv and they're great.

Style Review: The Wedding that Never Was

Hi, this is a guest blog from Corrie Clothes where I do a regular (ish) blog letting you know what I think about what everyone is wearing on Corrie.

The wonderful wedding guests at Sian and Sophie's wedding that wasn't really a wedding cos they didn't get wed!

Didn’t the guests look nice? Didn’t they all make such an effort? Didn’t they just CLASH, not just with each other (wonderfully, too) but with themselves.

However, there were too many boring black jackets. I know it’s winter but being black in colour doesn’t make the items of clothing any warmer.


First up, channelling our dear queen rather nicely was Emily in her raspberry hat with some rather delicious twirls on top. Even Norris noticed that she had a new hat or should we say chapeau, Norris? There were hints of a matchy matchy dress, black with raspberry prints and an extremely decorous double stranded pair of pearls.

It really is time pearls became cool again. I’m going to try to kick start this but not sure if anyone will take much notice. Didn’t she just glide across that shop, her beautifully cut swing coat swaying to the left and to the right as she walked, loud in red and proud? I would describe it as a Russian princess in the depths of winter crossed with a bearskin soldier on guard at Buckingham Palace with just a little glimpse of safari chic added by the zebra print underneath. And enough warpaint to knock Norris and Mary stone dead, if she wished. Wonderful, classic Rita at her very best and her very glamorous. Mwah.

Ladies, there’s colour blocking and colour clashing. The first is good and the second bad. Rita clashed with Emily. Raspberry and strawberry sounds very sweet but doesn’t look so fetching when walking down an aisle together. We waited in anticipation for her ‘date for the day', Rita, to see how the pair would match and in walked (prepare yourself for another Norris-ism) 'the scarlet woman'.


My most anticipated anti-fashionista did not disappoint. The lady who can always be relied upon to make an entrance in some get up or another - Julie Carp I LOVE YOU! She was the would-be winter bridesmaid she’d obviously always longed to be. No black for this damsel, oh no. There was a white faux fur stole, an ill-fitting starched satin sea green dress and to top it all off - most ill-matched of all - a pale purple formal beret. Joy of joys Julie. And not forgetting the too-dainty white satin handbag.

Next was to the Mother of the Bride. Such an important role and such an important outfit. Let’s not hide it with a boring fitted blazer. Oh Sally - you just did. Maybe she had fantasies of some gentleman slipping it off her shoulders at the wedding reception and revealing a hot red sexy little number. But we never shall know. But she got the wow factor after all, with that fascinator. Now I know that Grazia is forever trying to turn the nation against them but it seems the Street just ain’t listening.  And why would you when you can sport that delight? Stiffened twisted lilac net, from which emanated deep purple, baby pink and lipstick red feathers on long strands flapping as much as her mouth did.

Of course there were two Mother’s of the Bride and Sally, I have to admit, was certainly the classiest of the two.

Sian’s mum worn a purple jumpsuit. Yes a purple jumpsuit. With a furry/hairy short jacket. It wasn’t fashion, not really, just a little cougarish perhaps.



And then there was the wife-to-be of the grandfather of the bride (Sophie’s that is). Resplendent. Matronly. Bosomy. In danger of losing her hat it was leaning to one side so much. How wonderful too, that she had made sure that Bill had a sympathetically shaded tie to wear. Splendid.

Dev was rather dapper. Despite his dismay at having paid a whole £20 to get his suit dry cleaned, the dark navy was very seductive, with a good quality blue and white striped shirt which worked hard with the rest of the outfit. I was very taken with it. Please note ‘it’ and not ‘him’. Thank you.

I can’t possibly comment on the bridesmaids’ dresses, presumably chosen by Rosie. Other than to say my party dress of the season, was electric blue and there the likeness ends (as you can see here). HONEST!

How old is Deirdre's chain belt?

I was just wondering about Deirdre Barlow's chain belt. I thought that she only had the one - a gold-coloured one - but clearly the one shown in this photo is different - kind of silvery with a black leather-style detail.

As far as I can remember - and I've not been taking my Gingko Biloba as regularly as I should - chain belts came into fashion in the mid to late sixties. And went out again maybe in the early seventies. I'm not sure I've seen one for sale since about 1976 but I'm no fashion expert and maybe I don't go to the right places.

At any rate I'd say Deirdre's chain belt ranks with Liz McDonald's zig zag necklace-thingy as an iconic piece of Coronation Street "wardrobe".

And now we have a better clue. Flaming Nora dug up this photo from an episode in the 1970s that clearly shows the belt! Well, while it's obviously not the very same belt in this picture, we can clearly see that our Deirdre has always been fond of a belted chain. This picture is taken from a 1970s episode in which the belt featured in a storyline involving little baby Tracy and feckless husband Ray.

I wasn't influenced, honest!

Though we haven't seen it yet in Canada, Julie, Kirk's girlfriend, has been sporting a jaunty yellow handbag (purse) and a fuscia coat on UK screens. I can't say i'm keen on the two colours together but the yellow bag is quite nice. A couple of weeks ago i found myself in a shoe/bag store and spotted a bright yellow bag. Not really the same style as Julie's but similar in colour. I didn't even think about it at the time and i didn't buy it but the other day the weather here was very dark and dreary and rainy. I decided to go see if the yellow bag was still there because my day needed brightening up. It was!! See? Julie's bag didn't occur to me at the time i bought it but i thought of it after. Don't worry. A hot pink coat is not in my future. Red? Maybe.
