Should Pat Phelan be killed off - Yay or Nay?

His reign of terror must surely be coming to an end very soon. The net is closing in around him as Nicola and Gary work to undermine Pat Phelan and undo his evil wrongs. But will he get away with it? What do you think?

When Pat's crimes do come to light, and the bodies of Andy and Vinny are found (for surely they must be!), what do you think and hope will happen to Pat Phelan?

Should he be collared by the boys in blue and sent away for a long stretch - or, should he be killed off? I vote for the latter, to truly cement his fate as a top notch Coronation Street villain of the very worst kind.

But what do you think - Should Pat Phelan be killed off - Yay or Nay?

Roy and Carla's friendship - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog December 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

I seem to be out of step with... ooh, just about everyone on this but I do not like Carla and Roy's friendship and I never have.  It's a relationship that has always felt rather forced to this Coronation Street fan. I kept quiet about that for a long time because I love Roy and I've grown to love Carla - but the two of them together? Nope.

And as for Roy donating his kidney to Carla? Double nope.

The problem with their friendship, for me, is that Carla was thrown together with Roy by the powers-that-be at Coronation Street to make Carla appear more fluffy than she actually is.

ITV admitted that here.
ITV's drama director John Whiston said about Alison King: 'She is a consummate actress but somehow she was not breaking through in the research. We thought, 'What can we do to show a different side of her? She had a soft spot for Roy Cropper - this strange character we all love. That boosted her image and it showed she must be a nice person to like Roy.'

So, does it work for you, this friendship between Roy and Carla?  Yay or Nay?

The return of Carla Connor - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog August 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

In August, it was announced that Alison King is returning to Coronation Street to reprise the role of Carla Connor.  You can read more on that here.

But how are you feeling about the return of Carla Connor?

I'm giving this a big, fat YAY because I think that in the hands of new producer Kate Oates there's scope for Carla to become the new Elsie Tanner that we all hoped she would. Well, I certainly hoped she would, and she never really did.

Kana - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog October 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

We've had Tilly - a ship of Todd and Billy, but what about the latest ship of Kana - Kate and Rana?

What's a ship, you say?  It's one of these, surely?

Well, yes, but these days it's also one of these:

ship

N: Short for romantic relationship, popularised in fan fiction circles.
V: To endorse a romantic relationship.

And so there you have it. I'm old and I don't say ship other than, you know, as in the phrase "I see no..."  but younger, more trendy Corrie fans than I are shipping all over the internet these days, putting characters together and chopping up their names. I'm showing my age, I know, and I can only apologise.

But what about Kate and Rana - Yay or Nay? I say Nay.

Steve and Tracy back together - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog October 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

There's a worrying story in the Metro this week suggesting that Tracy and Steve might get back together again.  Don't worry too much about the picture above - it's an old one, not a preview!

But Steve and Tracy together again? Please say it ain't so!  You can probably guess already that I'm going to vote a great big fat NAY on this one.  They're so wrong for each other, in every, er, conceivable way.  Yes, Steve is Amy's dad and that means there'll always be that connection between Steve and Tracy on the Street. But for the two of them to get back together again, oh, heavens, no!

But hang on a minute... could it just work? I wonder!

After Deirdre died in 2015 and Tracy's character mellowed after the passing of her mum, perhaps now actually might be the right time for her and Steve to get it back on.  Steve is lost without a woman, so lost that he still lives with his mum.  And as much as I'd love to see Steve and Leanne together and running the Rovers, perhaps a Steve fling with Tracy could be fun to watch (from behind the cushion on the sofa, of course).

All things considered, I still say Nay to any possibility of these two reconnecting romantically.

What do you say, Corrie fans?

Vic Reeves in Coronation Street - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog October 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

Now then, I'm a big fan of comedian Vic Reeves... A Big Fan.  I'm also a big fan of Jim Moir (Vic Reeves' real name) in his acting roles. As Eric Morecambe's father George in the show written by Victoria Wood he was sublime. Read more on that here.

But in Coronation Street? I'm not sure he's worked... not for me anyway. And it's disappointing - but not totally expected. You may well disagree with me and I'd love to hear your views. I just think that Vic/Jim has a persona bigger than Coronation Street itself and he'll always be Vic Reeves to me, making the investment of him as Colin of Corrie a little difficult.

Don't get me wrong, there have been comedy moments from Colin - the high leg, anyone?

And I don't think we were supposed to particularly like his character anyway, were we? I mean, going after Dame Rita of Tanner as she lay in her hospital bed, determined to get the contract signed so that her flat went to him.

And as for taking over the Kabin... well, he wasn't meant to endear himself to fans, that's for sure.

I even yelled at the telly on Friday night when he positioned himself behind the counter at the Kabin as Jenny and her new best friend Eileen (?) and Gail did a group hug in the Kabin.  "What's he doing working in the Kabin?" I yelled at the telly. As yet, the telly has offered no reply.

And so... I really would love to know if this is just me having a moan and whether you loved Vic/Jim in Corrie.  But for me, I'm afraid, it's been a great big fat Nay.

Todd and Billy to Marry - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog July 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

Now that Todd and Billy have Summer, they're the first family that Coronation Street has ever had.

Obviously, as this is the world of soap, things won't always run smoothly, for where would be the drama in that? And soaps need drama, of course.

But what if, let's say, just for a little while, Todd and Billy could be really happy together? Let Summer bring some sunshine into their lives and maybe, just maybe, we might even see Coronation Street's first gay wedding.

I'd love that to happen for no other reason than to see what Eileen's fascinator might look like.

But what do you think? Should Todd and Billy get married - Yay or nay?

Steve and Tracy Back Together - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog August 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

There was a worrying moment at the end of last night's Coronation Street when Mary told Tracy to stop ignoring her jealous feelings towards Steve and Leanne. Mary pointed out that Tracy still had feelings for Steve, deep feelings stemming from their special relationship.  And she said that Tracy was still in love with Steve, too.

Now, that's as may be. And certainly we've seen a new, calmer, nicer Tracy since Deirdre died in 2015.  She's not as shouty and as bitchy as she used to be and hasn't as much as killed anyone either in a while.

I was just warming to Steve and Leanne together and had high comic hopes for them as the new Jack and Vera. But it looks, for now, as if that relationship is off.

But Steve and Tracy back together? Oh, please no. No, no, no. I don't think I need to say any more. It's a great big fat NAY from me.

What say you - Nay or Yay?

Does Craig really love Bethany - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog July 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

Last night in Coronation Street we saw what a star young Craig Tinker really is, if we were ever in doubt.

And as mum Beth quizzed her son about his relationship with Bethany, Craig kept on insisting that they were just good friends. He said that he would have helped out anyone in the same situation, no matter who they had been.

Beth was sure though that Craig has feelings for Bethany and it was clear to us viewers that there is more than just friendship on Craig's mind. But I don't think I want Craig and Bethany to get together. Let them just be friends, true friends that will always look out for each other.

But what do you think? Do you think Craig really loves Bethany? Yay or Nay?

More of Dr Gaddas - Yay or Nay?

(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog July 2017, reposted to this blog with permission.)

Dr Gaddas has treated the residents of Coronation Street for their ailments since she first appeared on screen back in 2014. She's helped treat Max Turner's ADHD, Steve McDonald's depression,  Beth Tinker's rash, Michael Rodwell's heart condition, Johnny Connor's MS, Faye Windass' pregnancy, Hope Stape's cancer and been sympathetic to an un-pregnant Eva.

With the expansion of the Coronation Street set in the coming months (you can read more on that here) I do hope we will see more of Dr Gaddas. I like her. Always unflappable, always keeps a secret, always honours the doctor-patient confidentiality that she's bound to.

The actor who plays Dr Gaddas is Christine Mackie and she has appeared in three earlier roles on Coronation Street as follows. With thanks to Corriepedia!

A Nurse based at Blackpool's Victoria Hospital where Rita Fairclough was briefly admitted in December 1989. More here.

Chris Jones between April and May 1992.

Salsa dancing instructor Bella in May 2010. More here.

Would you enjoy seeing more of Dr Gaddas in Coronation Street and finding out more about her? I say YAY!
