There's an old radio interview with Pat Phoenix, who played Coronation Street's Elsie Tanner, which was re-broadcast today on the Ed Doolan show on Radio BBCWM.
You can listen to it here on the iPlayer for the next 7 days.
Pat's interview comes on just after 1 hour and 2 minutes, after the Coronation Street theme tune plays. It's wonderful, listen to it now.
She talks about her reasons for leaving Corrie as Eilsie and slams her Corrie co-stars of the time who rubbished colleagues in the papers.
With thanks to @PeterMediaPR for alerting me to the interview.

The World Won't End on 12/12/12 says William Roache
(This post was originally posted on the Coronation Street Blog September 2012, reposted to this blog with permission.)
But he does think it will change dramatically, entering a new era of love and spiritual beings. According to the Mirror, He talked about the world in a "higher vibration" and believes that “The earth will continue to cleanse itself while material and negative things will collapse and cease to be.” Of course, he was speaking to "a spiritual, paranormal and metaphysical magazine" called Silent Voices so naturally is going to tailor his remarks for that audience.
“The energy and light of the Creator is love. Love is the life force, it is everything, it is the law of attraction.
"I have always known that there are beings around me, loving and guiding, and never more so than now.”
Yet he says he's not a spiritualist as such. He believes in love and the afterlife and spirits guiding us.
Will the world end on December 12, 2012 as the ancient Mayans believed? Will things change? Or will life as we know it continue? Bill believes things are going to change for the better. Let's hope so.

Sneak Preview of next week's Canadian Corrie, Sept. 10 - 14
Without further ado, here's a brief run down of next week's Coronation Street on Canadian Screens:
Tommy lets the cat out of the bag and so does Tyrone. Tommy stays sacked. Kirsty is mortified. Tina gets a part time job and Tommy gets a third job. Kirsty pushes for the cash and Tina starts to push back. Tommy is so worn out that a near-disaster ensues.
Ryan gets busted lying again. Michelle doesn't know what to do. Ryan makes a desperate move. Rob defends the factory but ends up on the defensive. Will he have to go back inside? Ryan later gets a new job and so does Tracy, hatching a plan to get back at Steve and Michelle.
Karl's fire alarm scheme goes pear-shaped. Eileen fears for a family heirloom.

Fab Photo - Florrie Lindley
(This post was originally posted by Sunny Jim on the Coronation Street Blog July 2012, reposted to this blog with permission.)
It's time again for a fab Coronation Street photo. Here's a picture of Florrie Lindley setting up a display in the shop she took over from Elsie Lappin in the first episode. She was played by Betty Alberge who went on to play the part of Edna Cross in Brookside.

Coronation Street: Is Eva Price the new Raquel Watts?
Anyone else spotted the similarities between Eva Price and Raquel Watts? Both are ditzy blondes, using their assets to snare men who they think are suitable for them, when we all know they're not. And in both Raquel and Eva, there's a lot more to each of them than the hair and the boobs and the fluffy exterior.
For those not old enough to remember Raquel Watts, have a look here, and watch her in action on YouTube against the evil cow Tanya Pooley.

Corrie originals - Christine Hargreaves as Christine Hardman/Appleby
First appeared: 14th December 1960
Last appeared: 3rd July 1963
Christine Hargreaves played the role of young independent woman Christine Hardman/Appleby between 1960 and 1963.
Born in Salford in Manchester in 1939, Hargreaves was trained as an actress in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and later starred on the stages of Northern England. In one production she starred alongside Arthur Leslie (Jack Walker) and it was indeed while acting with Arthur that they were both chosen to join the original cast of Coronation Street in 1960. Appearing in the second episode, 21 year old Christine Hardman felt trapped on the street and longed to escape. Amongst her storyline was losing her mother May to a brain tumour; a suicide attempt where old friend Ken Barlow had to talk her down from Ellison’s Raincoat factory rooftop; whirlwind romance and eloping with Colin Appleby in 1962 but he died in a car crash that year; and becoming engaged to Frank Barlow (26 year her senior) but called it off when she realised she didn’t love him. During her time on the Street, she worked at Elliston’s Raincoat Factory and later at clothes shop Miami Modes with Elsie Tanner and Dot Greenhalgh. She was promoted to a higher position in Miami Modes and was transferred. The last time Christine was mentioned on the street was when she sent a telegram to congratulate Elsie and Steve Tanner on their wedding in 1967 and by then was said to be residing in Southampton. During her three years on Coronation Street, Hargreaves appeared in 125 episodes.
Due to her short tenure, viewers struggle to remember Christine Hardman/Appleby. Although she secured many roles from the 1960s to the early 1980s, she wasn’t top of the bill. She played various roles in ITV Play of the Week (1962-1964), The Wednesday Play (1967-1970), Albert! (1969-1972), Softly Softly: Task Force (1972-1976), Z Cars (1962-1978), Play for Today (1970-1981), Crown Court (1978-1982) and Juliet Bravo (1980-1983).
Hargreaves died in 1984 aged 45 in London of liver failure after years of alcoholism. She made posthumous appearances in TV shows Mitch (1984) and Walter and June (1986) and films Nineteen Eighty Four (1984) and Nineteen Nineteen (1985). Christine’s fate hasn’t been addressed in the show.
Christine had married Klaus Voormann in 1965 and they had one child. They later separated.
Did you ever see or meet Christine Hargreaves? Do you have any pieces of trivia about her?

Surrogacy Storyline on Corrie - Will Katy Do It?
I felt bad for Izzy who got pregnant by accident. She never thought she'd be able to get pregnant let alone carry a baby, not with her medical condition and had resolved herself to the fact. Then it happend. She was scared and excited and when Gary was excited, too, she was over the moon. Then tragedy.
Gary is now hell-bent on having a child. Once the idea got in his head there was no shifting it and Gary can be very single-minded. Enter Katy, Izzy's 17 year old sister who's already had one baby and come through with flying colours. She's offered to be a surrogate and carry a baby for Izzy. Gary is thrilled, Izzy was a bit less so. Hopeful but nervous but has come around to the idea. Katy is excited and wants to do this for her sister but Chesney isn't so sure he's keen.
And Daddy Owen is losing his mind. He forbids it, he thinks they're in "cloud cuckoo land", he's stomping and yelling and threatening and nothing he does or says is changing anyone's mind though he did get Chesney on board and slyly had him won over for awhile. Chesney is now supporting Katy but down deep, I'm sure he's still against the whole thing.
Owen, of course, can't really do anything about it because Katy, once she turns 18, is a legal adult and it's out of his hands. He has had a hard time accepting that his daughters are grown and independent. He tends to be a bully. He's manipulative. He is used to having things his way and he can't anymore.
But on this one? I can see where he's coming from.
He's raised one daughter with a disability. He worries about her, naturally. Motherhood is not easy, whether you carry the baby or not but loads of disabled people are very good parents. His other daughter is barely out of childhood and even if she's got a baby of her own, she's still immature, if kind and generous. As a middle aged grownup, you can see this. To Owen, it's a hair brained scheme and Owen, with his impatience, control issues and bullying tactics, is going to be wading into this like an elephant in a china shop.
He's entitled to his opinion and he's entitled to air it. But he's going about it all the wrong way but for the right reasons. He worries. Have I said this before? He loves his girls even if it doesn't really show it in a way they can understand all the time.
I already know where this is heading but I can't spoil it for you. There are more twists to be had. I don't know the ultimate outcome. I don't know if Izzy and Gary will have a baby of their own to raise, by whatever means they can. I do know that there are too many babies on the Street already so I *suspect* it might not come to pass in the long run but time will tell.
What do you think? Do you understand Owen's point of view? Do you think surrogacy is the answer? Will it be successful?

Here's a few new ones for you spoiler-addicts out there!

Corrie's Angels
(This post was originally posted by Clinkers (David) on the Coronation Street Blog July 2012, reposted to this blog with permission.)
Despite all the rumour-mongering and general disatisfaction with some Weatherfield storylines (and those responsible for acting them out) there are reasons to be cheerful on't cobbles. No - really there are! Credit where credit is due. For every painful Tracy McDonald (that name STILL looks wrong when I type it) scene, for every nail driven into the ever-diminishing character that was Sunita, for every prolonged scene featuring Katie/Izzy (let's call them 'Kizzy') droning on about having a 'bay-beh' there is still Corrie Gold to be found.
Step forward Kirsty Soames, you slice of evil in a maternity frock. Admittedly, I don't much like the character and the storyline, in general, makes for uncomfortable viewing.
In lesser hands, the whole thing would be nonsense but Natalie Gumede is an absolute gem. She injects just the right amount of venom and vulnerability into her scenes, helping prevent her from becoming either a one-dimensional spitbag (Cilla) or a deary doormat (Claire). There's a general sense of foreboding about the Kirsty storyline but here's hoping she gets her moment in the sun.
Another jewel in the Corrie crown is the lovely Anna Windass. Her 'journey' (cue lumbering Coldplay soundtrack and slow-mo 'X Factor' style camerawork) has taken her from greasy-haired, low-rent villain's wife to Street everywoman. She's the one who should be wheeling people into the Rovers back room for a cuppa, an Eccles cake and a shoulder to cry on.
Anna carries her burden well - volatile son, sly daughter and a volcano of a boyfriend. Save for Hayley, she seems to be friendless but is always on hand with a ready smile and a fried slice. Debbie Rush, we salute you.
The third of my triumvirate of Corrie Angels is the joy known to us all as Eva Price. Now, I hold my hands up quite happily and admit that, initially, I really didn't like Eva. She seemed to be pointless. Well, like mother like daughter. The powers-that-be at Corrie obviously saw that there was a chance for Eva to shine.
From sulky bint to a rather glorious creation, our Eva tottered over the cobbles with her out-sized back nestling on the crook of her arm. She's a disaster, whether it be behind a sewing machine, attempting to breathe life into a relationship or catching a rat. However, in a Bet/Raquel way, she's back up and at 'em the next day with fresh lippy and that vital ingredient, hope. As with Kirsty, I get the distinct impression that happiness won't come a-knocking at Eva's door. Catherine Tyldesley behind her though, it won't be for want of trying.
So, as summer finally gives up the ghost, as the nights begin to creep in ever earlier and the barbecue is banished to the back of the shed, feast on some classic Corrie performances. Angels - you did well!

If Faye's dad was a returning character, I'd like him to be...(Possible spoiler)
(This post was originally posted by me on the Coronation Street Blog in August 2012.)This contains a possible spoiler, not confirmed and speculation.
One of the spoilers that Phil Collinson talked about in the Digital Spy interview (Spoilers) was the possibility of Faye's father appearing on the cobbles. It got me thinking. We know that Faye's biological mother was a drug addict. Chances are that her father was one, too. What I would love is for that father to be Becky's former partner in crime, Slug, to be Faye's father!
Think about it. Becky and Slug were friends, lovers and did a lot of illegal stuff together including drugs so it's already established that Slug is or was a user. He brought Becky to her knees after her wedding by planting drugs in her handbag for slimy Cst. Hooch to find and hadn't reformed as he had pretended to Becks that he had.
It's not out of the realms of possibility that he could be Faye's father and I for one would love to see the excellent Marshall Lancaster back on Corrie for a visit!

Corrie's Cherylee Houston writes play for Radio 4
(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog July 2012, reposted to this blog with permission.)
News from this week's fab Inside Soap magazine is that it includes an interview with Cherylee Houston, who plays Izzy Armstrong in Coronation Street.
Cherylee says the most expensive thing she's bought since she started on Corrie has been a special magnetic bed to help relieve the pain she suffers from the rare connective tissue disorder, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. She says in her spare time she enjoys gardening and writing and she's written a play! What a woman!
She says: "I've been doing some writing. I wrote a book which hasn't been published yet, but it's just been commissioned to be a Radio 4 play, and should hopefully be on next year. You'll have to wait to find out what it's about!".

Corrie Canada weekly awards: August 27 - 31
If looks could kill award: Anna's got the measure of Mary and put her in her place.
Not Crying Wolf award: Tracy really is ill, she's not just pretending.
Manipulation award: Mary pretended the hotel messed up the booking. Lucky she had fresh linens on the beds in the motorhome. What a coincidence. I don't think.
Welcome to the real world award: Rob is discovering that having a group of women working for him isn't so straightforward as he thought.
Fashion disaster award: Mary.
Oblivious award: Roy just never had a clue about Mary's intentions all along. Steve believes Ryan's lies about not doing drugs even with a dealer lurking in the corners.
More than this award: It wasn't the criminal record that went against Gary, it was the type, assaulting an officer (and also assaulting David Platt if you will remember) and his PTSD as well.
Somebody Stop Me award: Mary delayed and delayed hoping Norris would stop her leaving but Hayley did. Some really lovely scenes between the two women!
Deja Vu award: Steve gives Tracy mixed signals over and over. Tracy chases Steve and has a go at his newest squeeze. Change the record.
Busted award! Amy saw Steve kissing Michelle.
Let the Games Begin Award: Tracy's home and gunning for Michelle.
That Kid Has Talent Award: Sophie told little Jack they had to go before he learned naughty words and the baby smiled up at her!
It's not your fight award: Eva caused trouble for Karl and got him sacked because he betrayed her mother. I understand her angst but it's not her fight.
Nosey Parker award: It's only your business, Owen, if Izzy and Gary make it your business.
Is that supposed to be a fashionable look because it looks awful on Eva! The flouncy curly look she had later in the pub was much nicer, if a bit over the top.
Big Jessie award: Paul won't put a plug in his ears.
Inconsiderate award: Kevin always was a rude oik. He'd sure be hollering if the shoe was on the other foot.
Master Manipulator award: Owen is pouring poison in Chesney's ears so that Ches will push harder against the surrocacy thing. It nearly lost him both daughters and a girlfriend.
Pots and Kettles award: Tracy accusing Michelle of having a druggie son. Tracy who only has one kidney because of her own drug use.
How do I hate thee? Let me count the ways: Ryan. Nuff said.
Musical Ambience, Under Pressure playing in the garage. Poor Ty.
Lines of the week:
Tracy "You know me. Anything to help somebody" (Um. Really?)
Ryan to Steve "You, mature? Overripe, maybe"
Tracy "If you stick your oar in, I'm going to snap it off" Ken "It's you that looks like you need a paddle" (*snork*)
Ken about Tracy "She's not there for your convenience, you're there for hers"
Steve to Tracy "Michelle is everything you are not. She's kind, funny, thoughtful and not a complete and utter psycho!" (and she's gorgeous and has a killer figure, and her face never looks like this face (on the right) even when she's angry or crying!)
Norris "Nothing says Loser like a sweating contestant"
Mary "Show me forbidden fruit and I'm like Eve at an eat as much as you like buffet"
Amy to Steve "You tell lies!" (Doesn't he just!)
Steve "I think 'seeing somebody else' is a bit strong"
Tracy "Not only are you a liar, but you're teaching your daughter to be one as well" (spot on)
Anna about Mary "She's like a pirahna in a cardie"
Lloyd to Michelle "You're a braver woman than me"
Tina "Women like men with a sense of humour" Lloyd "I'm single and i've got more knock knock jokes than you can shake a stick at"
Owen "What you see is what you get with me" Anna "Yeah. And folk see a loud mouthed bully" (spot on there, too)
Sunita to Karl "My life finally makes sense because of you" (Oh you poor deluded woman)
Anna to Owen "Shouting and Bawling is not going to get you anywhere" (but he never learns)
Beth "A big dollop? That's no way to talk about Brian!"
Beth "We can't all be like something out of Jackie Collins"
Owen "You're not talking loud enough, Chesney"
Michelle "Tracy's the flaming recipe. Recipe for disaster"

Corrie camera angle causes uproar
(This post was originally posted by Flaming Nora on the Coronation Street Blog July 2012, reposted to this blog with permission.)
The Coronation Street Blog features in a story in today's Mirror which is reprinted on Unreality TV saying that "fans took to our forum" after we reported on the "Chit Chat" Sh*t magazine camera angle on Coronation Street this week.
Well, that's not really what happened.
I found the screen grab picture here on another website and put a link to it on twitter after a fan tweeted us at @corostreetblog asking if anyone else had spotted the magazine's title.
In response to putting the link to an external site on twitter, some fans did respond by tweet to us to say it was funny. And indeed it was.
But the two quotes by fans mentioned in The Mirror, saying they were left here on the Coronation Street Blog, weren't. One of the quotes was the title of that other website and I've never seen the other quote they mention.

Yes. As i was saying last week, Tracy ruined the other shoes on Norris and even worse, let down the vicar with the church decorating, and Emily finally ran out of patience and chucked them out. And it turns out Tracy really was ill with a kidney infection and when you've only got one kidney, that's serious. She might have been ok if she'd gone to the doctor when she started feeling unwell but she didn't and ended up in a hospital bed fighting for her life. Anyone can tell she looked awful. You'd think at least Deirdre, her mother, would spot it. Everyone thinks she's "crying wolf" but she collapsed.
What does Steve do? Say some blandness about always being a *part* of him that will love her for giving him Amy. Even that is a lie. He loves his daughter and maybe is grateful but there's no part of him that loves Tracy. But he said the L word out loud and she's grabbed onto it with both hands just as he's getting back together with Michelle. She should know better and so should Steve for saying it. I've long maintained Steve has given Tracy mixed signals for years. It's no wonder she can't let go. And Steve, coward that he is, lies to her face about how he feels because she's sick. Except she's now on the way to recovery. Steve has to scramble to keep everyone in the dark about everyone else but he got busted kissing Michelle by Amy and then tried to get her to lie about it! Poor kid! If she grows up normal and nice and kind it'll be a miracle. But it could happen. Chesney turned out ok!
Anyway, the truth comes out and Steve is shunned by Michelle (for a minute at least) and still couldn't tell Tracy. Deirdre let that particular cat out of the bag and now Tracy is out for revenge. So much for telling Steve that she's changed for the better. Still more mixed signals. He tries to be nice and then he tears a strip off her when she thinks they have a chance. He should know by now that she'll take every little crumb and run with it. Why does he keep it up? She must be feeling better though. 5 minutes out of the hospital and she's ready to go 5 rounds with Michelle in the middle of the street. Michelle missed a moment there, when Tracy was going on about Ryan's drug habit. Michelle should have pointed out that Tracy's single kidney was because of her own drug use! But Tracy... flirting with Ryan? Really? You know she's only doing it to wind up Michelle. It'll probably work, too.
I still can't understand why children's paint wouldn't be water washable and shouldn't ruin shoes that much. I'm pretty sure it's illegal to fire Karl because he's had an affair with a neighbour, nobody even directly related to Streetcars' owners. Rob didn't think Eva would have stooped so low as to set up Karl but then he overheard her bragging. Me, i would have fired her and rehired Karl. Rob doesn't seem too keen to get up close and cosy with Eva. Why? Because he's too busy chatting up Stella! Say no, Stella! He's just a cheeky and feckless as Karl in that respect!
Kirsty is gone and Tyrone is beside himself. Looks like he might have lost another child! Instead he's lashing out and snapping everyone's head off. Having your friend tell you you're better off without them is probably true but not what he is able to hear. Really, though, Kirsty knows that she's in the wrong in spite of her trying to put it over on Tyrone and she's probably done the right thing by leaving even though Tyrone is bereft. If she can't control her temper, she'll continue to hurt him and she does seem to love him enough to try to spare him that. Tyrone is definitely not himself, being nasty and obnoxious and rude. Ok, he's heartbroken but there's no need to be like that and Kevin told him a few truths and gave him some advice. Fight for that baby!
But when you go to the police about a "missing" person, they're not going to take you seriously if the person walked out of their own volition. But Ty is still walking around with a face like a wet weekend.
Ryan might not have called that dealer over to the cab office but it was still his dealer. Not the first time. Ryan is also highly irresponsible, hogging the switch phone when customers are trying to get through. What a div. (And again, can anyone understand anything he's saying?)
Happy birthday Stella. Of course she looks 10 years younger. It starts with B and ends in TOX. Leanne and Stella on their way out to the Bistro. Music in the Rovers "We're on the road to nowhere". Why do they both sit on the same side of the table? Why, so they can both see Karl and Sunita come in, of course and yet another row in the Bistro to erupt. Man i would be avoiding that restaurant like the plague.
Does anyone believe that Mary never actually booked two rooms at the hotel and hoped that Roy would spend the night in the motorhome? I really thought she plotted but it turned out that she didn't and the hotel really did mess up the booking. Roy was even willing to cancel his concert but Hayley wouldn't hear of it, he'd lose money. Hayley insisted to Roy continued with his plans. In the meantime, Anna sure clocked what Mary was up to and gave her her notice. He went but he was so antsy and worried about wanting to support Hayley that he really didn't settle. And I don't know why he couldn't get a phone signal. Mary got one and I've had one in Malvern myself! He was then horrified at having to spend the night in close quarters with Mary, that they came home. Mary could tell that she had absolutely no chance and he is devoted to Hayley.
Poor Hayley was in a tizzy, afraid that Mary could take Roy from her. I know she's confident of Roy's love for her but I think down deep she's still got a fear that she could lose him to a biological woman, especially one that has her had set for Roy. Hayley and Mary had some really nice scenes though. Mary thought she would be better off leaving town and it ended up being Hayley that stopped her when she found out that it really was the hotel that mixed up the bookings. Norris was sure shocked that Mary was going to leave but he couldn't say anything. I think Norris has grown quite fond of her though I don't think it is love. Neither could he express that he was glad she wasn't going either. Oh and is it actually legal for someone to park a camper van on a street and live out of it 24/7 for months and months at a time? And she did mention that everyone thinks she could stoop to anything to snare a man, making it sound like that's not true. Someone wants to ask Norris about his enforced sojourn in a cold cottage on the Yorkshire moors. Anyway Mary really does know what she's like and is aware of her faults.
I'm always amazed that people who have never seen the inside of a church and don't even seem to believe in God want their baby christened. Gary is determined now to have a family even if Izzy doesn't want to be pregnant so they are investigating adoption. Seeing as Steve and Becky weren't turned away for having a criminal record, but Gary seemed to be, i can only surmise it was because Gary's was for a more violent charge and there's the post traumatic stress thing to be concerned about as well, as far as the adoption board goes. Plus they want them to wait a year which they didn't insist on for Becky, remember. Gary's heart is broken but Katy has taken sympathy and has offered to be a surrogate. That solves one problem but what about the fortune it costs? Katy might be legally able to make that decision at 18 but is she really mature enough to do it? Owen will lose his mind! It really sounds like a lot of work just to do it too. medications, hormones, procedures and a whole crapload of money.
And Owen did lose his rag, and rage, in the middle of the Christening. Poor Chesney wasn't very happy either and yes, it's a very big thing to talk about and not mention it to your partner. She should have gone to Ches as soon as the words were out of her mouth, that evening. I can understand Owen being upset and concerned and i would be too if it were my children, but it isn't any of his business is it? He doesn't have to agree or even approve of what his children do but they're adults and he's got no say over it and it's not fair for him to make it black or white. My way or the highway. He'll push them away like he's done a lot in the past and Anna was right to point it out. It's ok for him to express his opinion. But he needs to leave it at that. No bullying but then that's his nature and it looks like he could lose Anna as well as his daughters.
Owen has figured out that Chesney isn't too keen on the whole thing and he's pouring poison in Chesney's ear, fear mongering, scary stories, it'll all end in tears, you know! And he's got Chesney on his side and objecting strenuously. Oh he's sly, is Owen and he's naive, is Chesney. But Gary overheard Owen and that was that. They should have figured it out from what Chesney was saying earlier, it was classic Owen coming out of his mouth. Owen is unapologetic. And you know, I think Gary has his head in the clouds too about it all. As soon as he finds something he wants, he obsesses and doesn't really think of any ins, outs, ups, downs, drawbacks or any other sides to be considered. It doesn't mean what he wants can't be done but he does need to have a reality check as well. Katy did say though, that she would choose Chesney if he made her but that made Chesney back down and support her. Good lad. Not really sure this is going to happen, mind you, and I don't really think I want it to. We've got enough babies on Coronation Street.
Katy and Chesney's money woes are getting worse now that the van is knackered and Ches didn't tell Katy about it for days, letting her plan to spend money on a christening. Aw but Gary is lending them his vehicle for the time being. Lovely man.
Sunita is really living in a fantasy isn't she? Happy Families, in her mind. Karl finally got a job at the factory but Eva screwed it up for him. Really, i can understand she has it in for him but she really needs to rein it in. If anyone has the right to do nasty things to Karl, Stella does but otherwise, it's none of Eva's business. And you know, her impulsiveness has already lost her one boyfriend. She could be on the slippery slope to losing another one. And Eva should be going around bragging about what she'd done, too. IT's painful watching and hearing Sunita in her fantasy world with Karl.
Did you see Baby Jack smiling when Sophie talked about him learining new nasty words off Kevin? Awwww And now Kevin is grinding and banging walls and Paul can't sleep. He's tearing chunks out of Kevin but come on, doesn't he still have his house? If not, why weren't we told? And if Kevin is working in the downstairs, why would Paul be trying to sleep downstairs with one thin wall between him and next door? Why doesn't he sleep upstairs? It might be marginally quieter. Kevin says he's got to get the work done while the childminder has Jack. Doesn't the childminder have Jack every day when he's working at the garage too? And the big strong fireman can't stand putting an earplug in his ears. I have to come down on Paul's side, Kevin is being an ignorant oik. He could have figured out Paul's night schedule before he started the work in the first place.

Weary of wacky Weatherfield?
(This post was originally posted by Clinkers (David) on the Coronation Street Blog July 2012, reposted to this blog with permission.)
Is it true? Is it a rumour? Who knows but this blogger visibly wilted at the thought of (spoiler/rumour through the link)yet another demented winter storyline descending on Weatherfield. Credibility is now at creaking point at the prospect of one more chunk of the cobbles being blown to kingdom come.
Think about it. You go to work in the factory. It burns down, explodes, acts as a graveyard. To get over the shock you pop next door for a bag of sweets. This is also fraught with danger as a tram, a mountain of rubble and Rita's bonbons crush the life out of you. In desperation you crawl to the corner shop - but no! A mad woman has run amok with the gas supply. The ensuing explosion is joined by yet more rubble, the front end of a tram and if that wasn't enough, some nicotine-stained trollop is robbing the safe as you lay breathing your last.
Finally you escape and crawl your way down to the Rovers Return - but watch out! A lorry load of wood is crashing through the window just as a huge explosion blows the glass out and some clapped out tart in a blonde wig is screaming into an echo machine at the top of the stairs.
Still to come: there's trouble at the medical centre as Doctor Carter slips in a pool of his own grease and accidentally pushes Deirdre through a plate glass window into the path of an unexpected Sherman tank making its way down Rosamund Street.
At the salon, suspect wiring causes an electrical malfunction and Emily is permed to death under the hood dryer. Plus there's disaster at Streetcars as Steve mistakes the pedal for the brake and hurtles through the cab office, only coming to a halt when the car crashes into Eileen's irony.
Please lovely folk of Corrie - can we get through the winter months without plague, pestilence and preferably Dev? (spoiler/rumour through the link)Just give us Karen McDonald dressed as Santa singing "Rocking around the Christmas Tree" whilst battering Tracy to death with her sling backs. Please?
