She's been one of the most debated Corrie characters for quite a while and, one way or another, things will come to a head during this week's episodes. Kirsty Soames may or may not become Kirsty Dobbs: wife, mother, bully.
Kirsty seems to be a 'love or hate' character. However, she has been so carefully drawn that it is, arguably, difficult to come down on one side or the other. Natalie Gumede's performance on Friday was both heartbreaking and terrifying. Here was a woman who thought, against all odds, that she had her happy ending in sight. At last a chance for her to be the person she thought she could be, even though evidence says something different. Although she now knows the truth, how will she act on it? Will vengeance be hers on her own wedding day? Does she somehow hope that the emotion of the big day will change Tyrone's mind?
Our very own Kathryn went to last week's press preview of the episodes. At our staff outing in Weatherfield last week, Kathryn sportingly DID NOT tell us the outcome. However, just to make sure that she didn't, we imprisoned her in Sean's locker at Underworld. We hid the key under the Action Man we found in Eileen's living room . . .
For me, the whole Kirsty saga has been a rollercoaster of loathing and sympathising. Natalie Gumede has been a joy (in an uncomfortable way) to watch. This week in Weatherfield should be one to remember.
