Becky really hit the wall. Steve won't listen to her and marrying Tracy is like a knife through her heart and soul. Drunk and depressed and burning old photos. The inevitable happens and the curtains go up in smoke. Obviously drunk and not thinking or why burn things in a very open sided bin! Luckily it's Nick to the rescue. I think he's had a soft spot of sympathy for her for awhile. You notice that the emergency vehicles (fire, police, ambulance) appear almost instantly sometimes and others, when the plotline necessitates it (i.e. when Katy went into labour) they take ages (which is probably a little more realistic in a city the size of the Greater Manchester area). All is well, though, Becky will be ok.
Tracy on the other hand... Deirdre's not handling the secret well. But Deirdre can't stay away and went to see Becky in hospital. I think she nearly told her the truth but didn't in the end and it gave Becky the spark to fight back. Of course Tracy makes sure to use the best tricks in her blackmail bag to keep her mother's mouth shut. Steve however is being a bigger prat than he's ever been. I saw someone on Facebook mention that when Roy Cropper calls you a fool, you're a fool! Too right!
I'm glad Becky went to the police. They went to question Tracy and she couldn't get out of the way fast enough. If it was true, she would have said or even reported it herself in the first place. I don't know why she wouldn't be up for lying to the police unless she knows her mother couldn't go through that again (remember the trial?) and would definitely crack under pressure. Of course the last time she lied to the police she ended up in jail for 3 years. But she ran for the hills, or safety of Number 1 at least and nobody questioned it, not even Ken, which is weird.
I don't blame Gail for wanting help. Everyone expects her to do all the cooking and cleaning. Nick's too old to be living with mummy but Eva automatically assumed she'd move in with Nick. His committment alarm started ringing loud and clear so she went off in a strop.
Peter is a dog, just...a dog. All that sneaking around... bleurgh. He's starting to spout Phrases of Doom, predicting they'll be together forever, virtually guaranteeing this relationship is going to burn spectacularly in the end. Lying to Leanne and pretending he's going to be seeing a councillor? Harsh. Stella spotted the necklace around Carla's throat and her radar is flashing again.
And Carla got so mad and Anne trying to blackmail her, she crashed Frank's business party and made a bit of a twit of herself. But she did break up the party well enough. Still, it won't do her court case any good will it? Anne didn't do Frank any good either. The problem is, Carla's solicitor probably couldn't use the blackmail in court because she went to Frank's after and because the only witness was Peter in the bedroom which also can't come out in court. I really like Anne as a character. She's impulsive, protective, sharp, bitchy. And you know, she looks a bit like Frank too. Or he looks like her. Good casting! She's a wonderful actor too!
After the party, red wine has it's traditional effect on passion and Frank leaned in to Sally for a kiss. It didn't go the full meal deal, probably because they hadn't drank the whole bottle yet. Powerful stuff, red wine on Corrie! It's started something, though. It was awkward at first but the next night Sally goes back to Frank's, helps salvage a client and nearly stays the night! Now she's wearing smoky makeup and spreading lots of smack about Carla, insufferable as always. but there was another kiss after hours in the factory and now Kevin knows and his nose is out of joint. He pretends it is because of Frank's rape charge but you know it's more to do with his own jealousy. Even Rosie is concerned though, and decides to have her say. Turns out Sally tried to use the excuse that Frank's father died suddenly but that doesn't really wash.
Beth, Steve's ex girlfriend is back!!!!!!! She's a real breath of fresh air, that one. She's almost instantly a favourite with me. Ohmygod Best. New. Character. Ever!!! I hope she brings that mute staring son of hers as well! She's amazing and hysterical and you're going to love her. She's kind of like Cilla but not as horrible all around. She's still pretty awful but fun. Anyway she has started off with a bang, spying Frank and Sally snogging and telling everyone in the pub including Kevin. Fireworks! Let's do some math. She and Steve saw Billy Elliot at the cinema. That came out in the fall of 2000, i know because i saw it in London. But Craig seems older than 11 or almost 12 so she must have already had him then. Otherwise wouldn't it be great if it was Steve's kid?
And it's the wedding of the year. Or non-wedding as it happened. First, Sian's father refused to come. Nobody should have been surprised at that. Sophie jumped right in and suggested they could postpone. Sian sure got over her heartbreak pretty quickly. Hen night... who invotes an 80 year old to a hen party for a 16 year old? Amber knew that Sophie was having doubts, crush or not and she stuck her oar in, albeit in a less than tactful way but it did get the point across.
But even on the day, Sophie still couldn't look Sian in the eye to say I Love You! I do think Sophie loves Sian and is probably over her crush or nearly but the fact that she had it, threw her for a loop. Sunita put Kevin in the loop, though and that's where it all came apart. Sophie was clearly upset and had things on her mind and she couldn't look at Sian when she was reading and then couldn't get her own vows out, couldn't lie with God looking on. She's definitely freaking out and her dad knew it. When he stopped the wedding to make sure she was sure, Sian knew the truth and that was that. She's not planning on forgiving Kevin any time too soon but it's not his fault, is it!
So she's gone and Sophie is heartbroken and blaming her father. Really though, do you blame him? I don't. I laughed when Rosie thought she'd cheer up Sophie with a romantic comedy movie, "The Breakup" Ooops! And Kevin outed Amber and Sunita both to Dev. Dev looked like there couldn't be anything worse than his daughter kissing another girl. Or maybe that's just the actor's attempt at looking upset. I don't know. But it was all about him wasn't it. Humiliated *him* on the Street? Nobody else knew! And he reckoned Sunita lied to him because she was taking out his past on him. He's very judgemental and certainly not the "modern man" he likes to think he is. He's going to lose his nut when St. Ella offers Sunita a job.
Yes. Stella the Saint has started a tradition of bringing someone into the back for a quiet word, dispensing advice and comfort to all, even people she barely knows.
Stella's determined to buy the pub. Karl reckons Eva should pay rent. I do too. Babysitting blokes!!! Brilliant stuff! Kirk as always was a complete star, reading to the babies using Blade runner quotes! Whatever works! Rosie has a very pretentious new agent who seems to fawn all over anyone, including Jason. Rosie wasn't too happy that her new modeling job had her covered up and wearing a bicycle helmet! Not glamorous enough for her.
Kirsty is at it again, getting the police to put out a shoplifter warning to all the department stores and tipping off the security guards to detain someone of Tina's description. Who else could it have been? Sounds to me like Kirsty is most definitely not who she pretends to be. Now Rita has got caught in the crossfire and has been stopped. Did you notice Kirsty taking a photo of Rita's car earlier in the day? Turns out her driving license has expired. Tina blames Kirsty for getting Rita stopped, hoping it would have been her.
Tina is sounding more and more antagonistic and paranoid, blaming Kirsty for all this stuff. In the beginning i would have said they'd just got off on the wrong foot, clashing personalities but it's starting to feel like they're making Tina look unreasonable and it's going to turn out to be true. She's already shown unreasonable jealousy. It looks like she's isolating him from all his friends. Kirsty is going to end up being a nutter.
Does Paul have no other mates? Surely he and/or Lesley has family and friends but no, he makes a beeline for Eileen. Well Julie has decided that Eileen will be partaking of the speed dating at the Bistro (which, by the way, has the wrong date on the flyers. Blonde moment Eva? (Monday, January 5... Should have been January 2) Did you see that bloke Eileen got stuck with? The Don Johnson wannabe? *snort* And look who shows up with the firemen to turn off the fire alarm? Poor Eileen feels like she's being battered and bruised each way from Sunday and feels so put upon that she finally makes a fatal decision to have an affair with Paul. Will Paul do it? Or will his guilty conscience take over. Eileen is teetering on the edge of a very bad situation, i think.
Awww Izzy and Gary are back together! Sylvia's back. Seems like she spent a lovely time on her cruise sailing up on her high horse. Now we have to suffer her warbling on her uke-banjo! As does everyone else. The pain on Roy's face was very clear to see and Sylvia's singing cleared out the cafe like a bad smell. Norris wasn't impressed and you could see that challenge coming a mile away. Norris and Sylvia in a musical play off and Mary is going to be Norris's bully ... er... tutor. Roy is further pained at the high phone bills, Sylvia's calling America to talk to her new fancy man, Milton! Carla is looking to hire on at the factory. Business must be looking up again. Why isn't she hiring Fiz?
